yeah I would do but I dont have my orange phone or sim at the moment to call them free as I sent it back for a different handset.

Looking at their site again I found that it says all 08 numbers are charged upto 35p p/min and inclusive minutes dont include it, so ive cancelled and gonna go back with o2.

I work for a dealer that basically process upgrades across all of the networks. I can 100% assure you all that anyone who keeps the same contract instead of taking a new contract must be absolutley mad. Regardless.

For example, Vodafone- The highest upgrade amount vodafone will supply is £225, and to be eligible for that you have to spend a HUGE amount with them. Now, this is how it works: I have £225 to play with. Vodafone also supply the handset costs (which are inflated). If a customer wants a K800i, that costs £190. I make £35 out of the upgrade. I always try to be fair with customers and give them what they want, but unfortunatley, even if you get the latest handset and you're happy with the upgrade, new contracts always get better deals on their price plans. Just to put this in perspective, the average user is allocated a £75 allowance for an upgrade by Voda... which gets them just about nothing.

With regard to Orange CS, it's terrible. When my mother calls them, she's on hold for 30mins at least, however, when I call, I get put STRAIGHT through. Because I have a £55 p/m tariff and apparently "qualify" for Orange Premier. My mother pays £30 a month and instead has to wait a decade to speak to anyone.

If anyone is interested I can email you the March 2007 commissions table for all of the networks, and I can assure you that you'll be disgusted by the amount that existing customers get allocated for commiting to a further 12/18 month contract, in comparison to a newbie.

For example Dolphin 35 (18 month) on orange generates £265 allowance. The average existing customer who continues after the 18 month initial period for a further 18 months generates between £105 -£155. Minus the value of whatever phone they give you, and that leaves you with the commision that the rep makes for themself. Just remember, they're basically out to just rip you off.

I have had the same with orange as well. I had two phones on a contract (one for my Volkswagen Cradle - they only use age old phones!) and one that I use day-to-day.

With Orange, I was using GPRS data on my handset and laptop, with both contracts and some data and texting, it was coming to around £70 per month.

When I phoned Orange and asked for some ideas, they didnt provide any, in fact they dont have a tariff less than £20 (at the time).

I was an Orange customer since August 1994, and have always fought a running battle with regard to handset upgrades. When I called this time I said I wanted a Nokia 8800 - "that handset is for new customers only" was the reply. I said ok in that case we'll have the PAC and I will go to T-Mobile.

In the end, I have Nokia 8800 on Flext-25+Web'n'walk Plus (3Gb of Data) and a SIM only (£7.50/month) contract that gives me 50 mins for my car phone, max cost I have now for the both is £40.

Orange have gone mightily downhill since france telecom took them over. It was much better when then were Hutchinson Telecom. (aka 3)

The lark with the PAC is also a joke, one thing that OFCOM should put its foot down on (but they always seem toothless) It takes 5 days to transfer, which is a Joke. In a recent consultation they said they want to reduce the time to 1 day - and the networks replied that 3 was the shortest they could do. I think that this is a stumbling block to competition. I'm not sure how some people can put up with changing their number I'd be very inconvienced because of that!

    Shunts....

O2's customer services is pretty shocking although. They honour there new customer prices after a bit of arguing.
