Do Vodafone lock all their phones?

I bought a Vodafone contract with a new phone (not from Voda directly). I am thinking of keeping the contract with my current phone and cash on the free phone. But I am not sure whether to advertise the phone as a Voda locked phone (which obviously have an impact on the value of the phone - but I will be honest).

I was with vodafone from 2000 to 2005 and all my phones were unlocked. However, my friend recently got an upgrade with them and it came branded with Vodafone on the front and its network locked. So I'm really not sure.

nabble a sim card off a mate for a min to test it?
or if you want to keep it shrinkwrapped or whatever, i would presume it is locked as the few iv been in contact with recently have been (an m600 and something else sonyericsson)

get a brand new release handset and generally they are unlocked, ones on the market a while tend to be locked.

My E900 and D600 Samsung's were both unlocked...

The ones that I have had directly off Vodafone (instore) are locked, but through a third party e.g. CollNew Mobile were unlocked!

Easy way to find out is stick one of these free 02/orange cards in!

Bought my eldest lad an ex-contract Vodafone D600 the other day. Turned up in its Samsung retail packaging, unbranded and unlocked...which was nice...

I checked my K800i shortly after seeing this thread, and it is indeed network locked. I got this the second day it was available on contract, so I'm not sure how I managed that

That said, all my BT Phones (they use the Vodafone & T-Mobile Networks) were completely unlocked.

my w850 is vodafone and came unbranded and unlocked

I got 3 phones from Vodafone over the last 2 years, all of which were branded and locked. Samsung z500, z400 and z720. Though back in 2001, i got a Sony J70 which was unlocked.

The bottomline is, i think some are locked, some aren't.

my w900 is voda branded and locked. However, if you have had the phone for more than 12 months, they have to unlock it for free. If it's under the 12 month limit, you can pay £20 to unlock it

most companys lock their phones, but if you get a new contract from a phone shop like CPW or P4U they tend to give you sim free ones, which i quite like Orange is the worst because they are licensed to make the phone :S
