Re: The next best phone - HTC Diamond Touch

this is really nice. but the one that sways me is the xperia x1. although i think one site got one for review - they said it was quite slow/buggy. i believe its a preproduction model. i think i may actually go for the diamond though.

Re: The next best phone - HTC Diamond Touch

What's so special about the Xperia 1, out of interest?

I had another look at this phone today - havent seen it turned on yet and given the functions a go, but I'm all but sold. Looks fantastic, and is so much slimmer than a lot of the other smart phones (with wifi, gps, 3g etc). Had a play with the iphone - tbh I would be tempted by the Apple device as it's quite slick and has more memory, but I HATE the lockdown on third party software, with Apple still having control over what's released.

Shame about the 4GB limit although I can live with it personally. Roll on August 1st when T-Mobile will let me downgrade my contract so I can then cancel for a small charge and go and get a contract with someone else

Re: The next best phone - HTC Diamond Touch

I'm pretty happy with my Diamond so far... (sorry, never got round to doing a review). It has a few interesting quirks that take getting used to but it does everything I want from a phone and it's lovely and compact.

I've never been able to get on with touch screen keyboards, so the Touch Pro is what I would go for. Also the memory expansion is a must too.

    Tried handwriting recognition?

    Works well enough for me...

Re: The next best phone - HTC Diamond Touch

That means using the stylus, i'd rather not

I like the Kaiser keyboard, and the Touch Pro looks better with its extra row of keys, saves having to hold 'Fn' to get numbers.

Re: The next best phone - HTC Diamond Touch

I recently came across this phone when I was looking for specs for the Touch Dual (Which I’m not getting)… Anyway, I think it seems great… I was all set to ditch my existing phone and go for it, then when I started looking video reviews, I saw the back, which is all anglular like the facets of a diamond, and IMO that was a deal breaker… It just looks hideous. Why couldn’t they have just gone for a flat back…???

Yes, I know that it fits in with the Diamond name, but for me, its just a shame… the rest seems absolutely fantastic…

Some reviewers said the battery doesn't last long - you can now buy slightly bigger batteries that, because dimensions are slightly different, also come with a replacement back cover. Maybe worth looking at.

I'd heard some networks, I think it was O2, are going to release the Diamond with a flat back, even if they don't one of the third party vendors will probably do one.

I have to say it didn't put me off and its a great phone, upgraded from a HTC P3600, its so much smaller and still manages an extra couple of features.

I am hoping the FM radio will compensate for the no microSD. Still with everything on there I was able to load up 3.5GB of music.

Looks pretty nice, but I really am torn between this or waiting for either the N96 or the SE X1.
Has this phone been buggy so far?

Yeah though to be honest thats always the way with smartphones and if you turn off wifi, gps, and bluetooth and always on connections it gets progressively better or you get into the habit of topping it up from your PC via a mini usb connection.

I am sorely tempted by this phone
