    Re: Sony Ericsson XPERIA X2

Yup, I am going to be holding off my upgrade until its released, hopefully no later than November.

The 8.1 camera looks great, the screen size has increased from the X1, keyboard may be an improvement too.

    I cant wait

    Re: Sony Ericsson XPERIA X2

Hmmm, interesting.... I would have liked the X2 to be more of an improvement over my current X1. Having said that, I'm not sure what they could have improved though...a faster processor might have been nice. I guess having WM6.5 on my X1 already has eliminated the attraction of the software upgrade.

Not convinced about the interface from videos I've seen so far.

    The hardware looks lovely though.

    Re: Sony Ericsson XPERIA X2

Interface is easily changeable to anything you like with the panels option.

It is true that there isn’t a huge improvement over the X1, but when you think about it, the X1 was pretty much perfect, they made it a little slimmer, gave it a great camera, slightly larger screen and a better keyboard.

I am so happy they kept what effectively looks and works as a D-Pad with some buttons, its so boring having just one big screen at the front.

    Re: Sony Ericsson XPERIA X2

Are SE making this one? or are HTC like the X1?

I would be slightly concerned about the build quality if it was SE to be honest, their consumer phones aren't exactly the best put together hand sets in the world.

Well for starters the X3 wont have a keyboard, it will be thinner but with a larger screen, if it had a keyboard I would have considered the X3.

    Re: Sony Ericsson XPERIA X2

The larger screen is certainly an improvement, the X1 was too small despite the high resolution. The panels interface is not good and I dont see anything here that looks better. The Engadget hands-on vid shows the new UI lagging just like the old panels. X1 was a good phone, not a great phone, I had one. I wont be buying the X2. X3, maybe but thats a way off yet.

EDIT - The slide tilt on the X1 (and X2) is great. I much prefer that to the slide and manual tilt that I have to do on the Touch Pro 2 I've bought.

The firmware you've been seeing on the X2 is not final, thats why there is lag.

Absolutely - and you should take that into consideration. They also said the same thing when demoing the X1. The X1 panels interface lagged all the way through to the R3A rom (final release). The only working (performant) panel manager I found was on XDA -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=498934, Kovsky cabs ripped from generic R3A.

I want to want the X2 but I don't think I will. Am I right in thinking that SE replaced the metal keyboard with a plastic one for X2?

I am hoping SE will have addressed the build quality issues with the X1 (was set on getting one then until I saw many complaints about cracking chassis in the O2 forums).

As for firmware, it's interesting that SE, Nokia et al. are perfectly happy to show off laggy prerelease firmware even though it might put off potential buyers. Or perhaps they are just trying to lower UI experience expectations....

Yes, the X1 was well known for cracking, this happened to mine and there's a huge thread on xda too.

It's plastic on the X1's too isn't it? My friend has one and his spacebar has cracked into two pieces, so i figured it was just plastic with metal effect.

The X2 looks 'OK' but even more like a SE phone now and less like a HTC..and this is a bad thing Would have to reserve judgement until I play with one of course. The software is irrelavent as you would be mad to keep a stock rom on a WM phone these days when there are so many better ones (in terms of stability/speed/features) on XDA..

Not quite as pretty as the TP2 though imo..

Apparently it was only the black version of the X1, which is weird.

    Re: Sony Ericsson XPERIA X2

Suppose it could be chromed plastic on the X1... It was a great keyboard to type on. I have a TP2 now and the keyboard is also very good, includes a dedicated row for numbers which was missing from the X1 but the X1 was very good.

About roms, I agree with you however people do keep stock roms, especially if they get their phones from a carrier. If you hardspl then flash a Voda handset then you can kiss goodbye to your warranty and most dont go through the pain. I wont touch another branded smart phone ever again.
