Might be faster + more powerful than the desire + arguably better screen, but a crappy, laggy UI is a huge negative for me
There are custom roms now becoming available for this phone, it's no big deal flashing really.

let us know what phone u had b4 finlay

after the initial new phone buzz, I'm impressed with mine. Particually the screen which beats anything i've seen so far. Everyone says its an iphone rip off though. Saw one of the sony ones today and that isn't a patch on the samsung. As a bit of hardware its amazing, android is good but has trouble keeping up the the bomb proof apple interface.

That's what I thought about the screen on my i8910, the amoled still beats any other phones without it. So the super amoled in this looks great. Don't listen to the Iphone ripoff thing, bet they own one and therefore have to say that. Are there any good games for it yet? Some games look amazing on the i8910 screen, the bigger and faster and android galaxy s should be a showpiece for mobile gaming!

    Re: Samsung Galaxy S

My mate at work has one. Its very nice. Samsung have outdone themselves with a really lovely screen and camera. Also it runs the Android OS which is a lot better than their old stuff with their own UI tweak on top. Their own tweak works fine, I still prefer the HTC Sense UI but thats preference. He also showed me Swype running on it and that looked really good. Missed the boat for the beta though for my Desire.

I don't think anyone would be disappointed with it. However, Samsung also aren't very good when it comes to updates, I haven't heard anything about 2.2 being released for it (I don't visit that part of the Android forums cos its not my phone!) but I hope it will.

    Re: Samsung Galaxy S

its funny, everyone in the sales showroom thinks the samsung is great but thinks the iphone 4g will be much better. Wonder how long it will take for them to realise the samsung is the same but with a better screen.

Once it's installed and enabled in the keyboard settings long click on any input text box and select swype as the input method. It's not really obvious to be honest...

    Re: Samsung Galaxy S

lol took me ages to work out how to activate swype - and i don't use it anyway tbh

one of the sales guys has got an iphone 4 and it feels really heavy compared to the samsung. Really appreciating the form factor of this phone particually when I'm carrying the wallet, 20 bensons, set of keys etc.

I tried an early version of swype last year and to be honest I couldn't be bothered to try and get used to it. It didn't seem natural, but I guess kids may find it cool.

I've been using it for about a year on my x1, only thing the stock keyboard has over swype is the emoticons

You know you can swype a smilie face? Start at J, down to , and back to P (which is of course : - ) )

There are many short cuts like this that make Swype so cool. It is by far faster than any other keyboard. If you get used to it, you'll love it too (and no, I'm not some young kid!)

My issues with the SGS so far are -

    1) The power button. How many times have I tried to turn the screen off with one hand and almost squirted it out.

    2) No flash for the camera. (Or to use as a torch)

    3) Terrible battery life. Granted I've only given it 2 or 3 full cycles, but it's only lasting 14-15 hours on light use at the moment.

    4) Speed. Generally it moves very smooth and quick, but every now and then it seems to slow to a chug for a few seconds. I don't think I have this with my N1. (Maybe FroYo is the difference)
