    Desire HD price drop?

So I got my Desire HD 2 weeks ago on PAYG for neigh on £500 at carphone warehouse. I saw it this weekend again at carphone warehouse for £400! Is it usual that a smartphone will drop £100 so soon after release, and with the normal Desire only about £30 cheaper? It's not even listed on their website at that price, but I went in store and saw a sign, and upon asking the guy, he confirmed it!

    Re: Desire HD price drop?

Why don't you go back and find out if there is any price match policy as I would be expecting that £100 back if it was me. Where I work at a large electrical retailer if someone buys a product and it goes down in price within the week they are entitled to the difference refunded.

    Re: Desire HD price drop?

You really think there's a chance they may do that? It seems a bit of a lose lose situation for them, why should they give me £100 back, I've had the phone over a week and a half (it's niot quite 2 weeks yet), and I bought it knowing the price could go down, I don't see what they would gain from it. Either way, I'll definitely give it a go, nothing to lose!

    Re: Desire HD price drop?

That's a huge price drop... perhaps due to the low supply of the cell phone and the initial surge of demand? Lot's of individuals wanted the Desire HD prior to it hitting the market...

    Re: Desire HD price drop?

List price for a short spell, then it drops to an actual street price after that, it isn't uncommon that's for sure.

CPW used to have a price promise, no idea if it is still in place. I've had a couple of cheques back from them in the past. Not been a customer of their for a good number of years now though.

Don't they have a peace of mind policy? 14 days I think with CPW, so you should be able to at least say you don't want it anymore.

    According to CPW website,
    "Mobile phones
What you can do with the phone before you make a change of mind return or exchange

You can turn the phone on and try it out. But you can't make any calls or send texts, or add anything to the phone's memory (such as saving numbers or taking a photo)."

How you can try it out without making any calls is beyond me though.
    Can you just............................?

    Re: Desire HD price drop?

Hmm well I can't say I haven't used it, as I very clearly have, so I guess that's that out of the window. Plus I bought it sim free, and upon closer inspection, it;s £399 when you buy it on PAYG and top up £10, so I'm probably not eligable anyway. So now my girlfriend is going to have the same phone as me, for £100 cheaper, just because I was too impatient to wait 11 days. Damn my need to have the newest things as soon as they come out! Having said that, you could wait and wait and wait and it never comes down, all part of the game!

Wait at least a month next time when you buy a brand new phone that just hit the market? :/

On a brighter note, how are you finding your new sexy desires hd?

Very good! As I said, I've not used a smartphone before so I can't really compare it to the iphone or anything, and as my previous phone was a tocco lite, it's basically amazing in comparison! The battery only lasting a day is something I had to get used to, but since I just charge it at work, it doesn't bother me much. Complaints so far? Only a few things. Firstly, the maps (the ones which you can use offline) seem to take an age to load up sometimes. I have it as a thing on one of my home screens and would have assumed that it would always update to where I currently am, but actually it doesn't update until I actually go on that home screen. I thought it would just update in the background, regardless of whether I go on that home screen or not. It's a bit annoying when you want to use it in a hurry. Secondly, finding wifi seems slow at times. For example, I get home and am in the same room as my router, yet the wifi starts trying to connect to BTOpenZone instead of my home one. My home one says out of range for about 5 or 10 minutes after I get back, so I can't use the wifi for that long.

Of course these things may be me just doing something wrong! Apart from that it's great, runs effortlessly and does everything I want it to do, and more!

    Re: Desire HD price drop?

ugh... battery life. I thought it would be better on the desire HD. But I guess it depends on your wifi usage. Cause I know connecting to wifi consumers a ton of battery.

Glad to hear you're enjoying it man!

Btw. I saw you mentioned in another thread something about the battery cover? Does it fall off easily or something?

I'm also playing angry birds quite a lot which is using a lot of battery :$ (I know because it tells you how much battery, as a %, each thing is using)

No it doesn't fall off at all, and it's a veery minor gripe, but the memory card/sd card cover at the bottom, when on, is about half a mm from being flush with the rest of the back, so if you rub your hand over, it forms a ridge. It's hardly anything really, but for a £500 phone I would kinda expect it to be made to a standard that this kind of thing wasn't there. Either way, I'll be getting some kind of case for it, in which case I won't notice the ridge any more.

Haha you know what, I actually very rarely use the phone to call, however, for texting its great...well, once I got smart keyboard from the market. Stock keyboard didn't have the | key which I use in some of my passwords.
