    Froyo unstable

I recently upgraded to froyo on my tmobile galaxay s. I was really looking forward to the performance boost n all the other hype but for the last couple of days I have had the total opposite!

My phone is unstable, freezes more often then not when using any app, the keyboard is laggy with the haptic feedback often being delayed or not happening at all. The phone is approaching unusable!

Has anyone else heard of anyone else having real stability problems with a clean, legit update of froyo?

A friend had the same problem. Do a factory reset.

    Re: Froyo unstable

Have you tried a full wipe (data, cache and dalvik)?

That's the first thing to try if a new ROM is not working... make sure you have backed up with nandroid and titanium first.

    Re: Froyo unstable

Are you rooted though? If not then reset what you can but I'm sure everyone would say a custom ROM would be better anyway

    Re: Froyo unstable

Will try a full wipe this evening, not rooted it yet either but want to go down that route eventually. Might use this as an excuse to go down the custom ROMs now tbh.

If anyone knows of a good guide to rooting & installing the ROM I'd be grateful. Used to do it on my old HTC Windows Mobile phones so presuming the concept is the same?

    Re: Froyo unstable

is it froyo though? I've been running froyo for weeks on my Desire, but the last three days something is causing it to freeze and random reboot in the middle of using an app - its driving me nuts.

Any one know where I can find the system logs to see whats triggering this? (to be fair I haven't looked for them yet, but if you know where they are you would save me the effort, meh, yeah I'm lazy...)

    Re: Froyo unstable

My phone has the flipping download mode disabled it seems. SO fed up of it now, am too scared to install the update to enable it through fear of bricking my phone. Seems to be a fairly common occurance based on the thread on how to do it!

Still fed up, got Froyo working now I think, but was really hoping to have a good fiddle with the ROMS & try some custom ones. Just can't see me taking the risk anytime soon!

On the contrary, I've found mine runs faster than it did with 2.1 installed now it's been updated with the official ROM from virgin when it was released

It appears that my battery life is also a lot better as its not always on charge now which is a bonus.

    Re: Froyo unstable

Mine has been ok (LiquidE rom on a Liquid), but my Desire owning friend is having problems.

I think it might be down to certain apps not being Froyo tested.

    Re: Froyo unstable

I am still impressed with Froyo. The GPS seems to have improved somewhat (wont penetrate my car roof though), but I have noticed NO speed boost, or increased stability. I would even be tempted to go as far as to say it is worse. I installed it and did a factory reset.

I am still worried about rooting my phone seeing as I have to install software to get the 3 button download mode working & from the XDA developers thread several people bricked their phone... and that was only on the first few pages. Still bitter over this, could solve all my problems...or could royally mess things up! Stupid ass manufacturers

    Re: Froyo unstable

Still getting more fed up of it. Txting there is noticeable lag on it occasionally, no speed boost and all round feels sluggish a lot of the time!

Has anyone tried flashing their phone to enable the 3 button download mode?

Since updating my firmware to 2.2 I have been having similar issues with my HTC Legend. Its very laggy especially when texting. I have uninstalled all my programs bar the bare minimum which seems to have eleviated the problem. Guessing something was not compatible with it making it slow

    Re: Froyo unstable

I haven't experienced any problems with 2.2 after upgrading my htc desire, its not locked to a network though and so its upgraded to pure htc code - no network rubbish (and it is complete rubbish the stuff they bundle with firmware and updates).

If you do have a network (owned) android phone then I really recommend rooting and installing a RUU or a custom ROM, a RUU is the HTC factory default ROM - several of which can be found the xda-developers forums.

I'm not sure what Samsung provide or the current state of development for the galaxy s on XDA but I'm sure its similar to the desire.

For the desire you can try default 2.2, or even 2.3 (gingerbread) in a custom ROM called oxygen by Adam G. which is similar to what the nexus s uses or go back to previous htc software versions.
