    Re: Desire HD rant

So you are trying to listen to music illegally through Youtube whilst doing other things, even though Youtube is designed to be a video streaming website, and that's HTC or Google's fault? If you were using a proper media player with proper media files you wouldn't have this issue.

Personally I use Last.FM to listen to music whilst doing other things and it works perfectly...

I assume it's not illegal if the DJ (not just a random person who's mixed the songs, an actual DJ on the scene within Dubstep) playing the mix has put it up himself and has purchased the songs...anyway I wanted to listen to the mix, not the individual songs. Even if I could buy them all (I don't even know the artists or the titles of the songs so it's kind of hard to do so), they wouldn't be mixed in this order, and to a high standard as I'm not a DJ. I happily purchase music as I want to support the music and artists, so as far as I'm aware I'm not doing anything illegal.

Your PC of 10 years ago was plugged into the mains and had fans and all sorts of things like that. Meaning it didn't need to worry about saving power, or any other resources. The Desire may well have the power and the memory of a PC from a few years ago, but Android, and the apps that come with it, cannot assume the device has that kind of functionality, it needs to be able to work on much more modest hardware, hence why it halts standard apps when they are not in the foreground. You would also complain (as would many many more people) if a YouTube video was to cause hang ups any other problems if a call came in while you were watching a video because it ended up continuing to play in the background.

That is the way Android is designed, that's the way it is supposed to work for some very good reasons. How do the other handset OS's handle this situation?

Now now, lets not get into an argument over this, there is perfectly legal content (including mixes) available to watch/listen to on YouTube. Lets not presume someone is viewing unlicensed content when there is no proof of that and it isn't really relevant to the discussion

Ok I take your point but still, (and I'm no expert here, in fact I know very little about smartphones) haven't HTC designed the version of Sense on the HD, specifically for the HD, hence know it's capabilities?

For Sense, yes. But the browser (by Google) and Flash (by Adobe) have nothing to do with HTC Sense

Sense doesn't alter the OS, it's just a few add ons apps and widgets that make the standard Android interface a bit more slick.

Oh I see, I thought the browser was by HTC to be honest. That explains that then!

    Re: Desire HD rant

Sorry for being a little presumptuous, but the Desire HD is one of the best phones on the market, and your gripe is with a complete non-feature... If you want mixes surely they can be had through other proper music streaming apps rather than through a video streaming app that wasn't designed for background audio use.... That's not the phone's fault!

Depends entirely how it's been modified, I can't imagine they have made many changes. And even if they had, perhaps that part would be entirely dependant on Flash, provided by Adobe.

Have you tried any of the other options people have suggested further up the thread? Like using the Youtube app for example.

    I see.

I haven't tried any alternatives yet (except youtube app which also doesn't work), as I don't often listen to mixes on youtube, it was just that on that occasion I tried it and was quite annoyed that something which I thought would be so simple to implement, wasn't possible on a phone that cost so much money.
