Can his 24" clad PC sit next to him in the car and keep the kids quiet while they watch a film, can his 24" clad PC show him upto date traffic reports and stuff like that while in the car, can he take his 24" clad PC camping, his 24" clad PC, does it let him check things on the internet while he's sat on the sofa at home..

I could go on, but I'm guessing you get the point..

Shirley everything we now class as every day tech was once a part of an invented market?

A portable computer, why on earth would I need one of those when I have a computer the size of a small house at home already?

A telephone without wires, are you crazy?!

I know you're quite new to Hexus mate, but I've got to say that dropping something like on Hexus, a geek-savvy forum, is akin to red rag - bull, as I'm sure you've got that.

Anyway, a quick look at the IPad wiki tells me 'Apple released the first iPad in April 2010, and sold 3 million of the devices in 80 days. During 2010, Apple sold 14.8 million iPads worldwide, representing 75 percent of tablet PC sales at the end of 2010. By the release of the iPad 2 in March 2011, more than 15 million iPads had been sold – more than all other tablet PCs combined. In 2011, it is expected to take 83 percent of the tablet computing 'market share in the United States.

So the market for tablets in not 'doomed to failure' I think! (Yes guys, I'm talking as 'the market' as including Archos, HP, RIM, HTC etc., not just Apple!)

Surely for the second and third purposes a mobile phone would be a better device to use due to its size? On top of this I would consider a dedicated navigation device much better than a phone too. For the fourth purpose I would still consider a thin and light laptop better if you are sitting down as I don't need to hold the blooming thing. Perhaps if you are lying down on a sofa the tablet would be OK as you can rest it on your legs.

    Re: Which Tablet

The iPad 2 is the only real tablet choice. Even if you need Flash in the browser the frankly rubbish Android tablet software holds everything back.

Don't even get me started on the app store... night and day.

    Re: Which Tablet

Having used the Xoom, which granted isnt the greatest example of an Android tablet the fact my iPad2 hasnt even come out of the box speaks volumes.

Dont get me wrong the ipad is good at what it does but its a consumption device..

    The Xoom actually switches on!!

    Wow!!

U prefer a XOOM over an iPad2? Surely not??

Looking at the Geek Rage(tm) when the name M-O-T-O-R-O-L-A XOOM is mentioned and I got the impression it was incapable of doing anything at all. Are u certain you didn't get a rebadged Samsung or something??

Samsung always keeps the Galaxy Tabs up to date. Just look at the latest software updates for the Galaxy Tab and Galaxy Tab 10.1V!! Android 2.3 and 3.0!!

You do know that ALL M-O-T-O-R-O-L-A products don't work do you?? You might have a rare example of one that does!!

Why are you calling it a geek rage? You seem strangely obsessed by it when you are actually 'geek raging' yourself.

    Amusing to say the least.

    Re: Which Tablet

If you want to get a tablet right now the only real choice is the ipad 2 as it has the best support and a good choice of apps.

With regards to the HP touchpad it does not have GPS it only has A-GPS. The OS on it WebOS or HP OS is brilliant but unfortunately right now there isn't a lot of apps out there and i think the OS its self is going to die out soon.

All Honeycomb tablets currently use the Tegra 2 chip so if the do affect video playback the there isn't a specifically good one that stands out. I would avoid Motorola Xoom as they don't have good support when it comes to upgrades.

Personally I looking forward to Windows 8 tablets. Its going to be touch friendly and it can run full programmes as well as apps which to me is really important.

lol wut? Assisted-GPS worse than standalone GPS?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assisted_GPS

Would one of these fanboy's make a please make a decent argument on why the iPad2 is so much better than an Android tablet and not just Androidtabletistehsuck and that iPadisL33T.

Without considering the hardware (because there are so many different manufactures of Android tablets) what does the iPad do that an Android can't? You can browse the Internet, do E-Mails, watch Youtube, watch videos, takes photos e.t.c on both. You say that the Android Market pales in comparison to the App Store which you could say is true based on the number of apps (500,000+ compare to 250,000) however are there actually any make or brake apps that App Store has that Android doesn't?

    Re: Which Tablet

I have a blackberry playbook but I have a samsung galaxy phone so not a good mix. But the playbook on wifi nice piece of kit.

But what would I choose well I am fortunate enough to try them all out a I sell them. What do I like at the moment.

If you like apple products this is not a bad choice at all and if not, I like the XOOM but am waiting for the new ASUS and Samsung to arrive in the store before I pass judgement.

I think it's to soon yet and would wait a few months before there is more out to see the pros and cons of each one

    Re: Which Tablet

The only good reason for not having an iPad 2 if you genuinely want a proper tablet is that you have something against Apple. The other offerings are shocking in comparison.
