    WP7 Mango - Thoughts?

Well the public beta started earlier than I'd heard but I must say I'm bloody impressed.

And I say that as the former owner of an iPhone 4, and a DesireHD.

Really impressive development (I say as an architect), and I must admit I'm a fanboy of the MetroUI team.

Either way, add your experiences, or your opinions (based on other reviews/videos) just make sure its obvious we know if you've got it on a device in your hand, or are erm, based on 3rd party info.

For me. It mostly elicits indifference.

Its only for developers, so public might not be the right term, but erm any member of the public can be a developer

Its interesting to see the tweaks, I've not had chance to see if they support the full MTP and Bluetooth thing with track names yet, which is something I've been wanting. In the mean time my little Onkyo remote control app is almost working

    Re: WP7 Mango - Thoughts?

I have been underwhelmed by WP7. However seeing as you have praised Mango, I will take another look at it when it comes out (October is it?) Hopefully Nokia would have got their bum in gear and release something worthwhile.

    Re: WP7 Mango - Thoughts?

aww I was wanting a geeky discussion of the pros and cons of the changes and features

I quite like the multi-tasking interface, they really did a good job of ripping of WebOS (which funily enough I've never had a chance to play with for more than 5 min).

I'm really not sure about the browser bar in landscape, bit of a step back, think I'll raise a connect on that!

I am enjoying been able to actually use the new APIs thou. That is one thing I quite like, the way they have taken Rx concepts and really applied them to the whole layer around the OS.

WinMo was always a bit like programming NT3.5, with a splash of Win3.1, this is much better, having a fucntional expression around your API interfaces makes it a lot cleaner to read, and quicker to write. I hope all APIs end up this way.

The changes to the gargbage collection also seem to have made a huge difference in some apps, none in others. Oh and I lost all my gold stars on GeoDefense.....

    Re: WP7 Mango - Thoughts?

    A Quick lazy question:
Have they made reintroduced the enterprise features that were removed from WM6.5 yet?
If not, I couldn't be less interested TBH. Enterprise support on the previous WP7 versions is no better than an iphone or android phone.

Erm not looked much on that front tbh, but they have added some things, Engadget briefly touch on them here:
    http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/27/w...preview-video/

    Is it anything in particular?

I'd love to get involved, but I don't have a developer license so can't :/ it's interesting reading your comments though.

    Re: WP7 Mango - Thoughts?

i did go to sign up but the cost of the developers licenses made it a bit pointless. No point to pay £70 to have it two months early.

Hmm they were giving it away free at one point!

    Re: WP7 Mango - Thoughts?

I did see that xda managed to port it onto a HD2, so I'll probably do the same once all those bright sparks have documented the hell out of it (enough for me to understand).

From what I understand it's very quick and the functionality is both different (from the iPhone/Android norm) and very effective. Would love to have a play around
