I got a 1gig Duo card off eBay a couple of weeks ago and have a bunch of albums on there.
Does the K750/W800 support proper playlists? I can't kind where it creates its own and find it a pain in the neck to create them when i change the music on there a lot.
I've pretty much retired my Rio Karma now, one less device to keep chanrged and carry around with me
I was thinking of going the MP3-playing phone route for another year but i think its time to let it mature.
The 6230 was nice at first but its so barebones when it comes to music playing it was barely enough to keep me satisfied. I know the k750i is much better at music playing but i still think it will fall short. Probably another weak amp with volume limiter and weak bass .
I'm going to have to go the dedicated player route.
The K750i is pretty powerful and gives a good clear sound. I'm only using it on standard headphones and loudspeaker atm but its LOUD with the standard headphones let alone in ear. I'd say its nearly as loud as my unlimited Sony HD1 and people say its got better sound than the ipod shuffle (Its rival i guess)
Bass seems suprisingly good on standard headphones but non existant on loudspeaker.
You'll be impressed, can always raise bass in the EQ if you want too
As i have said before, the only things that let the K750i/W800i down is the lack of format support (MP3/AAC - but then i only use MP3 so thats not an issuse for me) and the lack of gappless playback - which would require a format such as Sony's ATRAC+ format. But i don't think that would allow drag-and-drop, which i really like anyway.
They do need to mature a little more, but there are almost there really. Considering it's a phone i think they are pretty good and I would rather have just one device in my pocket rather than having a phone and an MP3 player. It's a small price to pay and i don't mind giving up a few features - my trousers are almost falling down anyway! It will be interesting to see what the new Nokia's bring. This time next year i think it will almost pointless buying an ipod or the likes with the phones that are coming out with 4gig+ HDD's in. Especially as you will probably soon(ish) be able to get a phone with the same capabilites as £200 ipod for free on a contract. I think Apple are probably pooing thier pants already.
Coming from a Minidisc past i'm down for whatever has the best quality.
And seeing how Sony's latest HD player is smaller than a mobile already I wouldn't be surprised to see them make even smaller HD players with even better quality.
I mean, the Ipod is a bit of a beast now compared to the HD5. And they'd have to sort out the mobile phone's battery first before i go for it. I'd be worried about listening to music if it runs down my phone battery, since a phone is a lot more useful in a crisis
We'll see
you might be surprised. With the k750 i hardly notice a difference in battery life whether i'm playing music or not. I think the GSM connection and having bluetooth on is a much bigger drain than the mp3 decoding. Granted this if coming off a memory stick rather than a hard drive.Originally Posted by Marcos
not having gapless playback wouldn't be as bad if the thing didn't click/pop on track transitions...

Dom, did you get the HPM-70's? I just ordered a set from MobileFun and would be interested in your opinions if you have them.Originally Posted by dangerous_dom

Remembered about this thread when i was in town this afternoon.
I got a set of HPM-70's off eBay recently, massive improvement over the bundled set. The bass is much better defined and there is far more detail in the music. Also find i don't need to turn the volume up nearly so much (was more often than not at full volume). I was worried i would start to hear compression artifacts, but LAME has done it's job well so far
I'm going to see if there is any further improvement by replacing the actual ear buds with another set of Sony ones i have.
Ordered some the other day of ebay. Have not arrived yet as they are coming cheap from hong kong. Will let you know when i get them mate.Originally Posted by Taz
I've recently got a W800i, apart from the tacky looking outside, its got the great camera as with the K750i, some canal earphones which aren't bad - they are a step in the right direction for bundled headphones as they actually sound half decent
Although annoyingly when you apply themes to the phone, it doesn't change the media player :S
G4 PowerMac - Tiger 10.4 - 512MB RAM
MacBook - 2Ghz - 1GB RAM - 120GB HDD
Rotel RC970BX | DBX DriveRack |2x Rotel RB850
B&W DM640i | Velodyne 1512
Yeah, i'm seriously considering getting that one over the K750i, wish they offered silver & blue instead of orange, maybe it wouldn't be too much hassle to take it apart & spray itOriginally Posted by unrealrocks
So the w800i gets a thumbs up from you?

I was thinking of flashing my K750i with the W800i software for the slightly better media player, but the W800i uses the button that is the activity button on the k750i as a media player button (which does exactly the same same thing as the play button on the side for some reason) and i really like the activity button function. Maybe i wil do it before i next go an an airplane so i can have the media player only option.

i think you can re-assign the activity button, at least i'm sure i read that somewhere.
Is there much in flashing the W800 software onto the K750 i'd be tempted to try that too.
Well, I got my HPM-70's and tried them out. Sony must be packaging a fairly low-end set of canal phones with this kit as the sound is not so impressive. It's much better than the stock headset supplied with the K750i though. The bass is a bit lighter than the stock phones with the EQ set to flat. The clarity is significantly improved. Plus, they don't fall out of my ears!
Substituting the canal phones in the HPM-70 kit with my Sony MDR-EX71's shows just how good the audio player in the K750i is (I reckon about 60%-70% of the quality of my iRiver H140 music player). Plugging my Sennheiser PX-100's produces extremely good audio.
The good thing about the HPM-70 kit is (as others have already pointed out) that you can plug in any headphones you like as the connector to the K750i has a flylead terminating with a 3.5mm jack and microphone with a call button.
Perhaps after a few hours of running in the sound will improve with the headphones in the HPM-70 kit, but it's still a worthwhile investment for anyone that wants to get decent sound out of the K750i and retain call/microphone capabilities.
Got 'em. Love 'em. Totally changed the way i use my phone. At last earphones that stay in my ears. Sound much better too. Yay!
