Over the years orange have progressively lost all the features which made them unique: Line 2, Everyphone, Wildfire, free 24 hour replacements, and recently free 0800 calls. You may not have heard of half of those features, but that's the point: because they weren't mass-market they got rid of them.

They are just like every other network now, which leaves it down to price.. where they really aren't competitive.

A few years back my phone on Vodafone got almost full GSM coverage, now it's rare so I got my mum a 3G phone, that gets 1/5 but with 3G you will need to check the coverage as most of Manchester is NOT well covered...

Got cut off a few times cos of the coverage problem, arghhhh.
    Woohoo now Assistant Manager!

Orange do make the effort to keep customers if the customers are worth keeping. Having worked for the for 6.5 years I have seen the deals they do for customers.

As a £30 per month customer you may feel your paying a lot but by the time the network have given you a shiny new phone free, your free calls, send you bills, provide customer service etc then you don't make much money for the network.

Orange would rather let you go to another network and use their services and give them very little profit. Orange pull out the stops when your worth keeping, customers with £50+ per month customers get great deals such as matching the 3 tariffs and any handset free.

Now as a business decision I think this makes total sence. As a customer paying £30 a month for a rubbish upgrade then I would be pretty annoyed.

Orange offer new customers better deals to attract high spending customers, if you are a low spending customer they will let you leave at the end of the year without a fight, however if you've proved to be a high spending customer they'll try and keep you.

Remember Orange aren't a charity to provide you with the latest handset for free when you pay £15 per month.
