BSOD problem! Help me please guys! =]

    Hi guys.

GF is having probs with her PC. Basically when it’s loading Windows XP, a BSOD comes up, but waaaay too fast to even read a line, literally blinks and restarts the PC. I’ve read that you can disable Windows automatic restart but I can’t obviously do it the ‘normal’ way start menu… run etc as I can’t get in to Windows!

Is there a way to disable automatic restart through the Recovery Console using the Win XP CD? I’m sure there is just need to know the syntax to use.

If I could work out what the BSOD is saying I should have a better idea on what is up!

Only thing I’ve tried is swapping the memory, so it’s not a RAM problem which I initially thought it could well be.

    Many thanks in advance.

If you press F8 after the BIOS logos etc there is an option for disabling the automatic restart on system failure

    Just in case you (or anyone else) needs to know how to disable the auto restart feature (brill idea MS);

    -right click 'my computer
    -properties
    -advanced
    -startup & recovery
    -settings
    -system failure, untick 'automatically restart'
    -OK

If the above doesn't work, get a new GF with a 360

Well managed to get it loading in to Windows. First thing I did was what matey said about pressing F8 so I could read the BSOD, said something a long the lines of unbootable device or something.

Anyway, next idea was to use Win XP CD and get in to the recovery console and run Check Disk (chkdsk) which took about 15 minutes, said it found some errors and voila – it booted up!

Not sure what the prob was but Check Disk has fixed it for the time being.

    Thanks guys.
