Thanks for the link redlight.
I reinstalled last night and this morning I got everything working again.
I turned on Network dicovery, File sharing and turned off Password protected sharing.
I then hit Connect to a network under Tasks in the left hand pane, Restarted and it was all working again
I can browse to shared folders on both machines
Yep, all permissions are set, as I said, it works for small files, but dies when I try and transfer any bigger files.
I just tried it again with a 20meg nvidia driver file and it was transfering at 1.00mb/sec right up to half way and then it came up with the error and that time I also lost my connection to the internet.
Does anyone else think that this could be a fault with the router?
Its looking like there could be!
Would it be possible to hard-wire the two machines via a crossed over cable and remove the router
Yes, I have a crossover cable somewhere, I'll try it out.
The more I think about it, the more I remember other instances like this where the router kept dropping the signal, but in the past it was only flakey until it was reset. Now its always flakey
Thanks
My 2wire router used to freeze displaying two red lights after being used for a length of time.
Now there is just a dent in the wall were it used to be!
I think one of those wrt54 ones from novatech is looking likely, they seem to be well regarded
