    Portable Web Server for Linux

When using windows I would use "The Uniform Server" which would allow me to create folders and install an instance of TUS into each folder and run each instance of TUS separately*, where each had its own configuration settings for the programs/services and website running from the folder TUS was installed to. Its great for USB sticks since it can run independently of the OS and therefor doesn't need to be installed as such. It is just run. Is there such an app for linux?

*Only one instance of TUS and the programs running from it (Apache, mysql) can be run at anyone time afaik.

Apache will support virtual sites either discriminating by IP address, domain name or port, and a .htaccess file in the directory containing the files being served will fine grain control over them, but I'm not sure that is what you want to do... (For example I have one apache server hosting 7 domains, and 6 different sites under one domain name, three of which are private and require authentication by a different set of users for each of those three)

if I understand correctly what your asking you could put the tux binary on a usb pen drive and run it it requires no system intergration. There is also a http server within the linux kernel that can be activated.
    It is Inevitable.....

    sorry for the slow response.

Tux is a low dependency webserver that I think would be reasonable straight forward to put on a pen driver and mount in pretty much any modern day linux distro.

The webserver in the kernel is embedded and based around tux (from memory). If you load the module or start it if its built in it should just work. I'll try to grab some docs on that.
