Whats wrong with actually suppling the customer the media?

As a system builder/ OEM you have the choice on how the customer restores their PC. Supply them with a windows disk and charge them for it.

Make it an option; not all users would like an OS install disk, some would prefer to be able to just restore a fresh image with all the apps etc installed.

This was exactly the point I was saying

Offer it as an option to the customer, if they don't want it you don't bill for it.

But on a re-read of the thread he wants it free as this tool is for him to make HIS life easier, which is why I said "I'm fed up of this I want this for free" attitude.

Your running a business - pay for the software you use, or offer it as an optional extra to the users you service there is no cost as the licensing cost is absorbed.
    It is Inevitable.....

Re: Free Disk Image Tool like Norton Ghost?

I saw that Clonezilla can do disk imaging and gparted-clonezilla can perform disk partitioning/resizing in addition to disk imaging.

I understand that you want to be cost effective especially starting out but it could be an optional extra and this would cover your licensing for a professional product. If the user doesn't want to pay then perhaps they could be reminded of how much more a repair would be (FUD)? Your business though so don't want to tell you how to suck eggs etc.

What is the point in giving the customer a restore disc as that will stop them from calling you out to restore the system, that way losing you money!!
