It is interesting seeing all the rather large websites coming up now!
Got 7 PC's running over the weekend, will see what i can fold to help the cause, pity the most powerful can't seem to run the client

Lost me a bit there matey, i'm assuming command line action is involved, but .tar (stereotypically) smacks of linux and these are windows boxes.
Error seems to relate to network access stuff, which is what i've seen a couple of other servers i've attempted to hijack! Can't seem to find the correct servers (although network wise the proxy should allow access as i've got it running on other pc's)
You're running Windows on an 8-way?
Yeah it's a work box (MS company) I think it's 4x dual cores making the 8.
It's used going forward to virtualise several other boxes, but it's not in use yet.

kidnapping the systems integrators means zero chance of running a f@h "soak test" on the full-size 128 node clusters, which would mean a 16fold increase in points per day, for a short while

well, the integrators are in at ten tomorrow, so this performance boost will be coming to an end. at least for now.
