    Thanks for the suggestions.

I am seriously considering just starting all over again ... but even if I do, I have to wait for a few months before I can do that and the space shortage wont wait for that long.
    It's a W2k3 server and its a workgroup server?

Pretty sure its workgroup based and not domain based - which was wierd. But I should recheck before I can say for sure.

What applications are on the C drive that is eating it all up?

Install something like JAM Software - TreeSize Professional - Hard Disk Space Manager that shows folder size and many more statistics to the machine - see where that 12GB has gone

Are you using exchange on this W2k3 server? - is the mailstore stored in the default place (ie C:\program files\exchsrvr\mdbdata\priv1.edb) ? - that can get moved easily if that is the case!

What version of W2k3? - Standard, SBS or other?

No exchange or anything. Patients' clinical records ... backup of that into a different folder periodically. My documents only user about a 130mb ... insignificant. Nothing else.

    Win2k3 standard.

Another problem with the whole setup is that this machine was being used as a desktop as well ... Cardinal sin. But its just too much to redo the whole thing.

As Splash said, make 100% sure that you have a backup, as this kind of operation does have a tendancy to make existing hardware issues worse.

Whats the best way of backing it all up before I do the repartitioning ?

I have tape backups for the important data which will be done. But for the purposes of this repartitioning, I will be using a USB hard drive.
