Re: Looking for ideas how to sort my mp3 collection please

    Hi MaddAussie,

thank you very much for that tip. I just downloaded (approx 4 MB) and installed it (approx 10 MB).
Before you install, you can choose between english and french language.
Haven't checked everything now, but from what I can see it looks rather nice.

By the way, after having tried out some different ways of sorting my mp3 collection, I have come back to the roots.
Arranging the files in too many different genres (type, language, year, etc) can take ages to find what you're looking for.

Therefore, I have put my whole collection (approx 350GB of mp3 files, and growing) into folders from A to Z, while making sure to use the surname (of the singer / band) first and the first name, second.
It takes only seconds to find what you're looking for.

That doesn't prevent you from creating subfolders like Podcast (under P), Instrumental (under I) or Meditation (under M), etc ...

    Examples:

A (folder for each letter) > Aguilera, Christina (subfolder for musician / band) > 2002 Stripped (subfolder for each album) > 10 Underappreciated (# and title)

    B > Blunt, James > 2004 Back to Bedlam > 05 Tears and rain
    G > Gray, David > 1999 White Ladder > 02 Babylon
    S > Streets, The > 2008 Everything is borrowed > 10 The strongest person I know

Each musician / band should only appear once under a letter, as the name of a folder.
Each musician / band folder holds one subfolder (for each album) with the year of issue, followed by the title.
Each folder for an album should contain all mp3 files with the number of the song followed by the title.

Cannot imagine any simpler than that.

All I do is name/sort all my mp3's by typing the name of the song first then the artist name, for example Halo - Beyonce.mp3 so it gives you the song name and then the singers name, you could do it the other way around though but each to there own.

    Hi Duker,

yeah, I kept my first mp3 files (many years ago) the way you have described.

Tell me, do you hold a seperate folder for each album, or put everything into one pool of mp3 files ?

Re: Looking for ideas how to sort my mp3 collection please

Basically I just have a folder called MP3's then in there I have all albums (in their own folder) inside the MP3's folder but for single mp3 songs I do it the way I described, song name then artist name.mp3 and they are stored in the MP3's folder as separate tracks.
