Problem with coming out of sleep mode

I am running vista ultimate with all updates. Over the past month my computer has started having problems when coming out of sleep mode. What happens is the fans spin, power & hard drive lights go on for a second then go off. Then all goes quiet for a few seconds and the same thing happens again and again. The only way to start the computer is keep the power button pressed in then for a number of seconds then restart the computer. Once started the computer runs without any problem.

Any ideas on what is the cause of this behavior would be much appreciated.

The specs of the computer are:

    Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R
    Graphics Card~: Nvidia 8600 GT
    Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 (2.4ghz) Socket 775 FSB1066 4MB Cache
    Hard Drives : 2 x Samsung SpinPoint P 500GB 7200RPM SATA
Power Supply: Nesteq Semi-Fanless ASM PSU, 520W
    Memory: 4GB (2x2GB)

Re: Problem with coming out of sleep mode

    my advice as follows:
    1. clear MB's CMOS (then check, if didn't help then go to next point)
    2. update all drivers (as above)
    3. update MB's bios

    luck!

Re: Problem with coming out of sleep mode

Unfortunately, the nVidia graphics drivers can often cause problems with resume.

On a number of my machines (all Asus motherboards, inc 965 and P35 chipset boards) the computers will go to sleep and will similarly appear to wake-up when I shake my mouse, but they never properly resume.

Having tried swapping my various nVidia cards for an ATI one, the machines all came back from resume perfectly (under WinXP, Vista x86, Vista x64).

No amount of updating to older or newer nVidia drivers fixes the problem. Of course, there are probably '000,000's of people running nVidia drivers without resume problems.... But my experience points to nVidia drivers...

I have updated the bios but issue remains. All Drivers are current. What are the chances of this issue being caused by PSU??

    Slim, tbh.

Is there anything in your BIOS about rePOSTing VGA on resume? Might be worth a tinker with that.
