I want to block facebook on my computer. Is there some good software for that purpose?

How does the computer connect to the internet? Most routers have some sort of filtering - for example a netgear one I can could redirect or block requests to the facebook website.

The simplest way to block it is to use OpenDNS, though it's also the easiest to circumnavigate as well.

This is the best option for a home solution imo. If you add a browser extension, there is nothing to stop you using another browser. If you change the host file, then there is nothing stopping you from using a different computer (e.g. might have mobile devices, laptops etc on the LAN too).

Ahh, I read it as trying to block all the crap Facebook craps across other pages, not trying to block Facebook completely.

If it's the latter then OpenDNS is the easiest solution imho. It was also the most blocked site of 2010 according to OpenDNS's recent stats.

I love the way that it's both the most blacklisted, and the second most whitelisted site... Apparently facebook is an opinion divider!

i find removing the cable from the back of the tower works best, call me old fashioned and all, but it works!

I think 99% of people fall into that category, I can almost guarantee if I did that to most of my friends' computers they would spend hours trying to figure out what's going on, phone their ISP then end up phoning me.
