    How to fix the mess itunes has created.....

    Well thats the last time i let itunes near my music collection......

    It's dumped 2gb of music into the unknown album folder and well it will take a fecking age to move each file back to where it should have been....

    Is there anything out there that i can use to scan through and get the missing id3 tag info for the files; at least that i can look to sort the mess out via other methods ?

    Would this also make tags more uniform? Would save me a lot of time as different albums seem to use different parts of the tag

    In which case yes, Tag&Rename is what you need.

    My collection has over 8500 tracks and it was a doddle....

    No i didn't, this was a basic install and it had that silly option ticked by default for me.

    It could be to do with the fact this is XP64 and apple don't officaly support itunes on this platform.

    Anyway the program sorted about 75% of the music out, the rest i did via hand.

    One of these days i will go through the lot and sort them out but for now this will do...

    That does't help if there is no id3 tag at all and the file name is made up of <track number> <track name> - no album details or artist....

    Personally I md5 all my music collection to guard against corruption that might occur while moving between devices. As this also records the filenames and directory structure, its simple to write a script to reconstruct it.

    Metatogger works on a digital finger print, its even tagged correctly live tracks
