    Question NTLDR is missing...

    Hello,

    Someone please help me.

I have a windows xp pro system running on 2x SATA HDD in RAID 0

I installed a new IDE hard drive today, could not get the BIOS to detect the new hard drive so i removed it and went back to the 2x SATA HDD in RAID 0.

On reboooting i got the error,

    NTLDR is missing

I have managed to boot to the recovery console, what command will fix this error ?

    Thanks

Sure they were put back in the right order?

Think that error as something to do with the computer not finding a master boot record.

EDIT - Just bear in mind I know nowt bout RAID but I pretty sure that error has something to do with boot record.

I usually get that when my PC is overclocked, try clocking it down a bit.

Before you do that check the boot settings in the BIOS (and the RAID array settings in the RAID BIOS too)... Might be a config issue from installing the new / bad drive and nothing wrong with the data. One other common cause of NTLDR missing messages is if you're overclocking too high (usually because the PCI bus isn't locked and therefore the drive controller (and possibly even the bus) is running too fast)...

Worth a go... If not have you got another spare working drive so that you can back up all your data from the array before you re-install windows? (Or have you got separate partitions set up so you only need to nuke the boot partition?)

Edit: A very good idea from Rogue Saber there - try swapping over the cables if you've had them unplugged (and check they're both plugged in too )

chkdsk - sometimes this will correct any file errors and get the system working again, when you are at the console (it's worked for me in the past)
