I use Azureus, top bittorrent client. Looks nice and performs nice.
Top tips for bittorrent...
1) Change the default port you use - make a port forward on your router if necessary. (A high range port 10000-65000)
2) Have a main 'Downloads' folder with a 'torrents' folder inside it and get the client to autosave the torrent in the 'torrents' folder. If the main torrent link goes down, as long as the tracker is still up you'll be able to finish it.
3) Do something useful with your server if your using that to download (SETI/Folding etc)
Overnet for odds n ends, BitTornado for torrents.
Using Azureus here for pretty much everything as there ain't much you can't find on bit torrent somewhere
Am I the only one who thinks that, although it's is a great system, BitTorrent is a bit of a bandwidth hog whether you're downloading anything or not?
Everytime me or somebody else on our network uses it, browsing (or any other net related activity) practically grinds to a halt.
Danbee... If you're downloading at a high speed, does it not seem logical that your connection is going to go slower? Especially seeing as because of the way Bit Torrent works, you're uploading at the same time?
Anyway I use some "Experimental" BT client... It works great

HEXUS|iMc
same here ,if i had some decent bitty sites id use it more but at the mo i use overnet as i find it is the best out of emule, sharewhatever, kazaa etcOriginally Posted by Applecrusher
I'd understand it if I *was* downloading at high speed. But when i've got one download going at about 10k/sec on a 768kbit connection, it shouldn't be owning the rest of the bandwidth too, right?Originally Posted by Howard
I use ABC (based on Shadows Experimental client IIRC).
bittorrent slows your connection down as theres lots of small connections that need to be maintained. This is not taking into account you maxing out your upload bandwidth (bitorrent should be set to 80% of your upstream for best results).
AFAIK new routers have faster CPU's which will show an improvement with bitorrent.
For Linux I recommend bittorrent-theshadow since it has a somewhat nice GUI and you can throttle your upload and download so it doesn't saturate your line and you can still do stuff. I have it integrated into FireFox as a mime-type so I can just click the torrent link and btdownloadgui.py comes right up.
