Bit Torrent - Slow Downloads.

Not having much luck getting Bit Torrent working as it should

I'm using the Azureus Cilent, which I am very impressed with I just can't get the downloads to speed up, getting 25k max at the moment.

I have a router and I think I have fowarded the port properly, never played around with my router settings before, so I thought if I posted a little pic someone could tell me if I have done it right.



The only thing I don't seen mentioned on the sites I have looked at about port fowarding it the private port, Have i filled this section in ok?

I have taken off the firewall to see if that made any difference, but it does not affect it.

That looks right. If you don't forward those ports to the computer you're using BT on, you'll get about 1k/sec. Lol.

I'd say the problem lies with the clients you're downloading off. I usually get around 25-30k, but sometimes it goes up to around 60.

Does it do it with EVERYTHING you download?

Not really used Bit Torrent much in the past, and when I did I used to use a USB modem instead of the router I have now.

The thing is I get the same 25kish downloads even if I don't have the port fowarded to 6881. It says I'm connected to 184 peers with a total download speed of 3.6mps, but I'm only getting 25k downloads. :/

Wow how do yo find out how many people you are connected to ? AS I also have Bit Torrent and is a handy program but how do you increase speeds. As I just always thought it was the server. As I suppose if everyone is gettin the same speeds it cant be anything else can it?

Doesn't it proportionalise your download speed based on your upload or something?

You've forwarded 1 port but bittorrent uses 6881 - 689something(I forwarded all up to 6895 i think) so you need to forward all of those as well.
A pain i know but hopefully it should work.

Worked for me when i was getting 20k tops up to 45-50k now off any torrent with a good amount of sources.

Doesn't it all depend on whether bittorent uses the first port by default? Couldn't it just pick one of those at random?

bittorrent, by default, needs one port per download, starting at 6881. ten downloads, go to 6890.

So I have forwarded the port ok? I don't use BT very much so I only need 1 download at a time.

Do I need to do that if I only ever use 1 download at a time? And if I do need to do it can I just do it like

6881 6995 6995 TCP 10.0.0.14

Would this cover all the ports or do you have to do them all seperate?

Depends on the router. to be on the safe side just to 6881 - 6890 separately.
Don't know whether it will help but it can't hurt.

You DON'T need to forward all the ports. I only forwarded 6881, 6882 and 6883 to be safe. I won't be doing more than 3 downloads at a time, ever
