Other than AVG, does anyone have any other recommendations?

I use Avast. Not sure whether I'd wholeheartedly recommend it, though, as it seems to give more false positives than Norton 2k2, which I used to use. On the plus side, it hasn't made my PC any (more) unstable.
[edit] that link seems to be down - try http://www.avast.com instead.
Avast was ok apart from the whole noise thing
did seem to be free - was nagging that I needed to buy it after 60 days , do it got uninstalled and AVG went back on.
In retrospect I probably got the wrong version.

Panda's one seems to be good. Unsure if it was only for a limited time they did the free one or not.
Kaspersky is meant to be one of the best free ones.
none of them are anything on the ones you buy, definatly worth getting a proper one

I've been using AntiVir for about two years, and I've never had a single problem (although I also run ad-aware). It's german made, so sometime the help pages don't get translated, but it's free, updated at least once a day, and has never let me down.
find it at www.free-av.com
They told me I was gullible ... and I believed them.
I'm currently running Ad-aware and it works very good I think or there is Spyware boot and destroy, which is also good. I'm using both since sometimes Sypware finds stuff that ad-aware doesn't.

I would go with ZenOK Free Antivirus. It has very low overhead works very well and so far has been bulletproof. Not that I have ever been infected with any viruses but since I'm a IT guy I would be embarrassed if I did get caught.
Woah - Resurrection record ?
Society's to blame,
Or possibly Atari.
well since it's been resurrected, I'm going with a Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes combo
Avast has a mode which talks to you in pirate!
