    Windows 8 Driver!!!

    Hey,
I have Dell OptiPlex GX620 and I am using Windows 7. according to internet forums or websites, I cant run windows 7 on my computer because my computer is too old for windows 7 (because of drivers may be) but some how Windows 7 itself installed and update my all hardware drivers which is pretty smart. so I have 4 Gb Ram, 2 GB HD Ati Card PCi express of course, and now I want to install Windows 8 on my computer. The reason I am here because again I read many forums and users are saying that you cant because your computer is too old and blah blah blah whatever, but I really don't want to listen that crap again. if any one here who own or have a practical of installing windows 8 on DELL OPTILEX GX 620 computer then let me know please. if windows 8 will work then I will buy it.

    Thanks!!!

    Re: Windows 8 Driver!!!

It could possibly run Windows 8, it could possibly not. I have few old laptop that ran Windows XP and Vista with Intel Celeron processor and Duo Core I have installed Windows 8 as a test and it ran fine because it was using the generic drivers that came with Windows 8. What processor are you running on Dell OptiPlex GX620?

If you haven't done this, I suggest running Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant to check for compatibility or issues with your hardware you are running.

    Re: Windows 8 Driver!!!

Windows 8 will almost certainly run - but it'll probably do it using generic drivers. There's a fair chance that some of your hardware won't work properly or use all of its features. Let's face it, if I can run Windows 8 in a VM which is emulating a chipset from the late 90s, your Optiplex has a pretty good chance.

If you want to make sure, though, you could see if you can get hold of a Win 8 Consumer Preview disk and try it before you buy. If the consumer preview works OK then the final product should

    Re: Windows 8 Driver!!!

    Ok, Win 8 system requirements:
Processor: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster with support for PAE, NX, and SSE2 (more info)
    RAM: 1 gigabyte (GB) (32-bit) or 2 GB (64-bit)
Hard disk space: 16 GB (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)
Graphics card: Microsoft DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM driver

I guess it is a Intel Pentium 4 HT? Your processor speed is good and you may be able to install it however you did not mention the model of it so I am unable to determine if your CPU supports PAE, NX, and SSE2 which are requred for Windows 8 otherwise it will refuse to install.

What is pae, nx, and sse2 and why does my PC need to support them to run Windows 8?

Run Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant to check if you cannot find out or not sure or you can try and install Win 8 consumer preview as mention by scaryjim or Windows 8 Enterprise evaluation 32 bit.
