Once you try Firefox, and get used to the different interface than that of IE, you will never go backto Microshaft.

Yeah - I know what you mean. I had an extension called "opendownload", but now it won't work .

And the mouse gestures extension doesn't work, I feel lost without them.

it takes a while for the extensions to catch up. you can usually wait a week after a new reelase, click the update button on the extensions window, and it'll find new versions of some of them

I thought about getting the mouse extensions one, but didn't see the point. Most functions nowadays are quite easy to get to without it.

Unfortunately thanks to non-DHTML complaint pages and dreaded ActiveX, sometimes you'll need to go back to Microshaft.

Never use micro****e. If a page insists on using lock-in tech then I move on. If they can't cater for me, I won't cater for them...

So far, I've noticed one annoying feature that wasn't in the previous versions (IE does this too). When I click on a link from an email in outlook express, it doesn't open it up in a new window like it used to do, instead it loads it in one you're already using. Does anyone know if there's and extension that will stop that from happening?

Ok go into browser window. .CLick tools > Options > Advanced > Go to Tabbed Browsing > Change relevant options ( tick the open links from applications 'In new window'. .

    Hope this helps..

In firefox, clicking back on these very forums doesn't take you to where you were scrolled on the forum list, you always go back to the top, IE goes back to where you were on the previous page, which I like.

I still use opera for all my forum browsing.. to much effort to reenter passwords even if its just the once. I know firefox is better, in many ways, but I think the difference security wise, between opera and firefox isnt THAT great.
I also think opera is faster, so more suited to having several tens of windows open at any one time, perfect for reading hexus

MY main annoyance with firefox is upgrading. Its not easy. First you have to uninstall, then installthe new version, set all the settings and extensions again to get it how you like it.. too much effort for me. Why cant they release a simple update that can be installed over the top?

because all previous (fire(fox|bird)|pheonix) versions were beta ones. the style of extensions, themes and settings weren't set in stone and so everytime they changed the specifications, all the extras had to be rewritten. with the launch of firefox 1.0, upgrades in the future will be as easy as you request.

i like opera too, i run it at home and find that it runs very smoothly under debain woody. i run a moox m2 performance enhanced version of firefox 1.0 at uni though, because my uni machine is faster and i prefer the uncluttered nature of firefox.
