Free music software

I currently have some tunes that I can play, but I need to teach these tunes to others. Basically, I need a program that I can put notes into, so that it displays them on a stave (I think that's the correct term). I then want to be able to print the music so others can learn the tunes too. The software should also be able to play back what I've written so that I know I've done it right.

I did have a search for this a few months back, but didn't think of asking here.
