    Gaim is good as it allows you to access any of the networks, MSN, Yahoo, AIM, ICQ and others on one client, it isn't susceptible to popup spam and virii like Messenger and it tells you when the other person has closed the chat window which is a useful feature MSN doesn't. The only area it's lacking in is the away system which is currently being worked on. It's just personal preference but I find it a lot better for basic chat, MSN may have bells and whistles that make it better for others. I personally can live without internet backgammon
