The site seems to be just a stunt to promote browserdiscussion.com or something

At the end of the day, I use Firefox because it's nicer to use and has much less of a footprint on my system (you can run it of a memory stick for a portable version - take to work, on travels etc).

But the main reason is that is simply renders pages much, much faster than IE. And thats important to use 56kers.

msie embedded activex control. see steam, as an example of it.

it's an oxymoron, for people who believe the embedded msie activex control is more secure when used in $foobrowser than iexplore.exe

AOL got the right to use IE code for 7 years royalty free as paty of an antitrust settlement over some paty of the IE/Netscape wars I thought...

There's little to no proof of FF being more secure, and updates are only fast if you build your own version. Most people don't so it's really much of a muchness as to which you use. I'd say go with the interface/features you like better and just use common sense while browsing.

FWIW any website that tries to force me to use a different browser just gets ignored. I suspect I'm not alone in that by a large margin.

Yea but can this happen to FF?

Actually, that looks like my girlfriends browser when she runs IE. I do ask her not to though, but after it is her computer... even though she calls me when something goes wrong with it!

Most of the IE based browsers have popup blocking and activex control, I dont get any popups with avant.

Actually they aint popups, what are they? Also people have had the odd instal probs with firefox, its good, but I find other browsers to suit me more.

FF is just so much more customiseable and has more features than IE.

eg - I can open up all the online shops I buy PC bits from, from the bookmarks folder they are stored in in 2 clicks. 20 or so of them. Can't do that in IE.

Jeez - even my Ma sees the benefits over IE, took her a while to get used to middle clicking, but with a bit of tution she grasped it and she's a silver surfer. lol.

Security - nothing is ever 100% secure - but I've had less issues with FF than IE regarding this.

Avant does just about everything that FF does, its an add on / skin for IE. Has mouse gestures, tabbed browsing, etc all built in.
