I haven't read a whole lot on longhorn or w64... and now I'm starting to get a little confused... longhorn is only 32bit right?
is either of them getting an official release anytime soon?

Windows XP 64 was released about a month ago (maybe more) you can only get it through OEM or by using the Microsoft trade-in program.
Longhorn is the next-gen windows OS which Microsoft have set about 10 release dates for it so far, I cant remember what its set at currently, so don't hold your breath for it just yet. Also, Longhorn will come in 32bit and 64bit

Windows XP x64 is out now, Longhorn should be towards the end of next year, but I suspect most of us won't have our hands on it until 2007. I think a public beta is coming out some time this summer, though.
