    guide to setting up windows?

Just had to reinstall windows after something borked my install.
When I did this a long time ago, I found a guide about setting up/optimizing XP by doing things like having pagefile & temp folder etc on seperate partitions. Now I have re-installed windows, all that has disappeared. Can anyone point me in the direction of the guide as it worked really well.
I do know everything, just not all at once. It's a virtual memory problem.

This is a good link to a guide by extremetech.com to optimise XP.

Although the only advantage of setting the pagefile in another partition is to prevent it from fragmenting when your drive is running nearly full, but if you put it on another drive from your operating system, you will gain a slight performace increase. If you wish to do this then:-

right click on my computer, properties, advanced tab, settings in the performance section, advanced tab, in the virtual memory section click change, select the current drive where your pagefile is and then select the "no paging file" radio button, then select the new drive/partition and select "system managed size"

    Hope that helps.

    Hi,

I find MCSE World by Daniel Petri good for these sorts of things. There is an article here:

    http://www.petri.co.il/customize_a_n...stallation.htm

Which you might find answers your question!
