    'Balloon' Notifications - Not Happening

yet another strange one from the realms of vini. got a colleague who connects via dialup. his computer has recently (apparently. you know how it is) stopped popping up saying 'connected blah' the 2 computer icons dont show and, hes unable to click anywhere to show the status or disconnect.

this is not major, but its causing him enough problems to point it out.

i'd be glad of the 'problem' but im not him.

anyway, ive trawled through the connections making sure they all show 'show in taskbar when connected' - yet they dont.

ive tried unticking that box, applying and reticking to see if it makes a difference, like refreshing it. nope nothing.

i thought it was just for this dialup connection, but it appears he gets NO notifications at all. not even to say wireless network in range or anything...

    any ideas?

This might help, you can disable the notifications, might be set?:

You need the little computer icon in the taskbar so you can right click it to disconnect, but why the balloons? They are just a pain in the ass and i use a reg hack to disable them.

i dont need the baloons, im guessing they go hand in hand, or similar. theyre both missing. so im guessing its related.

No, they are quite seperate i thought.

Go to My Network Places -> View network connections -> right click on the the connection (i.e. the dialup connection) and select properties -> Check the 'Show Icon In Notiification Area When Connected'.

Here is how to remove ballon tips (which you can reverse) - http://support.microsoft.com/default...307729&sd=tech

EDIT: Sorry, i see someone already posted that link.
