XP chkdsk running on every reboot

I ran chkdsk via the properties option by right-clicking on C: in My Computer folder. It gets to stage 5 of 5 and then goes no further - stays at 0% completed. It then requires a hard reset to reboot but obviously this just kicks off chkdsk again. I don't seem to have any way of getting back into windows.

    I'm using NTFS.

Stage 5 is verifying free space.

Just let it sit there for ages and realised it IS actually counting up towwards 100% very slowly. I guess this is because it's a 200GB disk.

a mate had the same problem, have you tried putting the drive into another pc ? run chkdisc and defrag it, if it still does it on your pc back up all the stuff on it and format the drive. in the end we had to backup everything and format it .

I had this on one partition. I did a chkdsk /f at the cmd prompt to get rid.
Either that or is you dont care about running checkdisk, do a google on resetting the "dirty bit"
