FWIW, most climbers are 'free' climbers', in that they use their gear solely for protection (as compared to AID climbers who use their gear to aid ascent, eg ascenders, ladders etc)

what you're referring to, I assume, is climbers who like to solo

Archery is loads of fun, when I was young I built my own bow(could only shoot about 60 meters) but it was loads of fun to shot with

That's a bummer, but you know it's all upper body strength right? There's a story about this very well known climber in the early 90s, French guy I think, who was entering a competition where the routes could only be accessed by walking up a very steep trail. It took him more than an hour to get up (vs. 10 minute standard) because his legs weren't strong enough and he had to stop for a rest every couple of meters.

There's several indoor walls which are pure overhangs, so if you really wanted to try it I'm sure you could give it a go.

    Double thread resurrection.

Did you get into it then Funkstar? Fairly recently got back into climbing myself and it's loads of fun. I'd really recommend it to anyone interested.

    Re: Climbing

Well i joined the place in Aberdeen and went a couple of times. But i haven't really had the time recently to go back.

Also i don't know anyone else to go with so i'm limited to the bouldering, which gets a little boring after a while.

If things settle down at work (actually not likely) i'll go to a couple of group sessions and get to know some people hopefully.

    It is good fun though.
