    5K Run

Well, I just got back from my very first running race which was five kilometres. I managed a nice time of about 22 minutes and 30 seconds which I'm chuffed with because I think that puts me above average.

I could have definitely done better but due to a trapped nerve in my shoulder it causes a chain reaction and I end up having a painful stitch which is what I got for this run. It just means I have to slow down for a bit and let it ease off until I can pick up the pace again.

My next one is a 10K in Portsmouth I think but it's going to cost quite a bit of money. I wanted to do a half marathon next month but I'm not quite trained up for it yet.

So is anyone else as into fitness as I am? More specifically running?

[here's the link to the run I did, results aren't up for this one just yet]

Congrats, I doubt I could run 1k anymore. Did do 63 miles on a charity bike ride though, finished in 4 hours and something

I can run continuous for 2Hrs playing fast football but long distance like 10k I would definately be stopping for a quick cig on the way. (Bad)

Not a bad time for 5k, was it road race or cross country?.

I'm about 30mins for 4 miles cross country at the moment.

Road a bit faster. Trying to build up to 7miles at the moment.

I would say cross country but it was in a park, so the grass was totally flat so it was just the same as on a road really.

I'm aiming for 20 minutes in my next 5K next month

There you go, a very small picture of me running (I'm on the right, running). I was in lots of pain from a stitch at that point, but that was the last stretch.

    ive got a 10K on the 17th June. Currently averaging about 27mins for a 5, aiming for a sub-1 for this 10K.
Then i've got the Fresh'n'Lo half marathon in glasgow in september. If i continue training throughout, I fancy going to London to do the full, in my kilt

Did my second one yesterday. 22 minutes and 3 seconds beating my record by 1 minute and 56 seconds. I came 8th out of 29 I believe. The lead was in at 18 minutes. I then watched the half marathon leader come in at an astonishing 63 minutes! :O

Congrats. Those are really good times. I recently did a 5K in just under 25 minutes and am shooting for a half marathon in September.

Nice one, that's around a 7 minute mile pace which is good going IMHO. Good luck with the 10k you'll probably find the differences (mentally as well as physically) with the increased distances interesting. Have you been to the doc with the trapped nerve? Some anti-inflammatories would probably help a great deal with it.

im not one for doing actual races, but i do hit the treadmill and do the occasion roadrun, and your times seem pretty impressive! im by no means unfit, but i think it would take me a while to be able to get to 5k in 22 minutes, and thats on a treadmill

I've been out of running lately due to an ingrowing toenail which was pretty painful. I jabbed a knife down my toe and ripped it out, seems to have done the trick so hopefully I'll be running again next week!

Don't neglect that toe - I got a serious problem with my big toe on my left foot. I was running (in boots) and the left corner snapped off, stuck right down into the nail bed and bled. Stupidly, I kept going and only examined the damage some miles/time later. I still get problems from time to time with it and that was over 3 years ago!

Then of course you have things like nails going black and falling off if they're too long! Ah, the joys of long distance running.. and shin splints..

I haven't had shin splints so far, but it's quite common so I'll have to be careful. A lot of people have recommended me to not do so much road running and instead hit the treadmill. I might do that when I find some time.

I've been running for about 3 years, and consistently hit the 21.10 minute mark for a 5k. I prefer longer distances. The further I run the smaller my problems become .. or something like that.

Try using Nike + if you can, fantastic training tool for wanting to go faster or further.
