The funniest is that if either france or italy lose by a few goals and greece draw their last game then France or itally will finish witht eh worst goal difference

France were just awful, throughout the competition!

Holland have been the best side so far, I'd like to see them progress through to the final. You'd be guaranteed goals at least.

Italy vs Spain will be an interesting semi. I kinda fancy Spain, but you can just never rule out Italy.

Re: Headlines - Who will you be backing at Euro 2008?

As poor and lucky as the Italians have been, i think they are worth a punt at winning the Euro's.

There is no substitute for a little luck and the 'true' class of their squad.

Things like the Buffon penalty save and then getting the result against the French is what champions are made of.

The Dutch are playing great football. Unfortunately (and i know being an Arsenal Fan), attractive football isnt enough to win competitions/tournaments.
I just dont think the dutch would know how to knuckle down and fight for a win when things dont go their way.

Winning pretty (the Dutch) is great on the eye but little else.
Winning messy (the Italians), is what make you are winner rather than a nearly team.

I would love the Dutch to win but just cant see it.
TBH aswell....only a maniac would write the Germans off.

I disagree. When they were up against the French, there was a prolonged period where they were kept under sustained attack. They managed to hold out and then broke away to score a goal. A simlar thing happened against the Italians. Their last two goals came off the back of 2 very good Italian attacks. They pushed onto the back foot, but managed to shove back and score.

Re: Headlines - Who will you be backing at Euro 2008?

So, here's the quarter final lineup:

    Portugal v Germany (Thursday 19th)
    Croatia v Turkey (Friday 20th)
    Netherlands v Russia (Saturday 21st)
    Spain v Italy (Sunday 22nd)

My reckoning, therefore, is Germany vs Croatia and Netherlands vs Italy in the semis. Croatia vs Netherlands in the final, Netherlands champions. Done.

I think they all look like good games in the making, Portugal - Spain final is my prediction but it could easily be Croatia - Russia - pretty close all round !

I'm looking forward to the Turkey v Croatia, should be cracker as they are both attacking teams. I would not be too surprised if Turkey somehow pull it off

In regard to tonight's game, I going for the Germans.

Lightbulb Re: Headlines - Who will you be backing at Euro 2008?

They should all be really good games now, but based on the way they played last night... I'm looking forward to the Russia vs Holland particularly

Based on the way the two teams had played up 'til last night (Holland have been quite brilliant - Russia have been run-of-the-mill), I'd have suggested Holland wouldn't have had much of a problem beating them.

However... whilst I still fancy Holland to win, Russia showed what they're actually capable of last night, and if they can play like that on Saturday evening, I reckon they're gonna give Holland a good run for their money

    I can't wait

Well played Germany! Enjoyed that game. Croatia vs Turkey should be a corker tomorrow. I think Turkey's last game may have been their highlight, and they're probably knackered from the celebrations.

I'm predicting a Germany vs Croatia semi.

They are also missing a couple of key players, aurelio, gungor, volkan etc. However as long they give Croatia a good game I will be happy. I'm guessing three or four goals tomorrow, and possibly extra time and penalties if we are lucky.
