Oh man! That was so gritty from Turkey, but so so unlucky for Croatia! I feel really sorry for them after that, they played well throughout the game and had enough chances - when they finally scored, I really thought that was it. Can't believe the Turks did it again!

Feel really sorry for Modric, he played really well tonight and then ended up missing the first penalty.

Another great match, what a tournament it has been so far. The only big negative has been Mark Lawrenson's awful commentary - which is pretty bad!

Turkey are reminding of me Greece now but more entertaining . Everytime they play, everyone thinks they are supposed to lose but they don't. I would not put it past the Turks to bundle their way past Germans.

    You think?
And there you have it. Russia are through and yet again, the Dutch flatter to deceive.

Lets face it, the Russians were far superior to Holland tonight and the score is no reflection on how the Russians played. If it was, Russian wouldve scored 5 or 6.

Re: Headlines - Who will you be backing at Euro 2008?

I'm laughing at the fact that at the beginning of the tournament hardly anyone would even consider that teams like Turkey or Russia could make it through the group stages let alone reach the semi final.

Gus weaved his magic today, and once again Holland have proved that it does not matter if you score 100 goals in the group stages, it does not mean you will go one to win the competition. So far all the teams that came second in their group have gone on to the semi final.

Anyone for a Turkey v Russia final?

Still Germany or Italy to win it.
I got 6/1 on Germany (£80 bet) after they lost to Croatia.

Wish i had bet a saver on Italy before they played France aswell now

Re: Headlines - Who will you be backing at Euro 2008?

Ok, so I've calmed down a bit...
I'll admit that Russia were better, but I don't think it's because they are a better side. Rather, the Dutch just didn't play as well as they were in the earlier games. They let themselves be pushed back into their own half far too many times, and they didn't spring back on the counter as they did do well in the group matches...
It just didn't seem like their game was just flowing, as it did so in the matches against Italy and France. It's like something changed in the team since then....

One thing I don't understand is why did they not put on Robben? He has played very well in the last couple of games.

Credit where its due.......Russia played very well no matter how Holland performed.

The best side comfortably won the game and shouldve won it in normal time. Holland were outplayed in every department and if it was for Van De Sar, it wouldve been a very good scoreline in Russais favour.

Seconded. That really suprised me, he's such a playmaker for them, how could Van Basten, leave him out of it?

I never said Russia were bad, I'm saying that if The Netherlands played the same kind of football they played against Italy/France, it would have been their game. I understand you're point about Van Der Sar, but I guess that show's why he was picked...

I dont think its becasue the Dutch didnt play well.
The Russians stopped them playing the way they wanted to. Holland just couldnt fnd the answers and use 'Plan B' when they needed to dig deep.

I wanted Holland to win aswell but they were just second best.

Here's to the Spanish losing tonight now.
