Hehe yes it's true that they could have a material which simply flexed at amazingly high loadings, and they happened to have a wing design that generates so much more downforce than any other team. But I don't buy it - other teams are more than capable of copying a part as visible as the front wing, and if the Red Bull wing (and all iterations of it last year as well) was so much more effective then we'd be seeing the flexing on more teams.

A more reasonable explanation is that the wing layout etc. doesn't by itself produce significantly higher loading than other teams designs, but by allowing it to flex cleverly they bring it lower, which then generates many aero benefits including even more downforce.

    Re: The F1 2011 Thread

I suppose it could be, it's something we will have to keep an eye on this year. Red Bull look to be using the same or very similar design looking at the pictures.
One of the other theorys last season was that the whole floor moved pushing the whole nose down. But there's been a clamp down on the floor towards the end of last season and for the start of this one.

Whatever it is they've done it's beyond my understanding.... The technical side of F1 is fascinating, even when your told something and you still can't understand it, it's still very interesting

center of the wing is petty normal, it is just the tips that bend down far more.

But with the last page ripped out

They should force teams to release technical documents 2 years later, so we could actually find out some of the amazing stuff.

Well, i quite enjoyed the race, the new tires look to be doing a good job. I think it looks good for the rest of teh season so far

Great job by Petrov and Perez, especially Perez making the tires last so long.
Real shame Sauber were disqualified though.
I treid reading why, but my eyes started to glase over - http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/90294

FIA documents i've saw posted on another forum. It appears a Sauber was checked and passed after quali, but both failed after the race.

    After quali report

    Race
    http://www.fia.com/EN-GB/MEDIACENTRE...ace-report.pdf

Sauber are car numbers 16 and 17.

    Re: The F1 2011 Thread

any one from 4, my initial reaction is that Jensen has set himself up with slightly more oversteer to to reap the neutral while people are suffering understeer, so maybe he is going with the 2 stop while hoping everyone else goes for a 3.

anyone have the latest weather for tomorrow? i presume it is more likely to be dry now than it was looking from Friday Q2?

Except he likes an understeery car. He said in the interview that he'd gone slightly the wrong way for the Q3 and it was already slightly too oversteery for his liking - that'll only get worse as it goes on so I'd reckon an earlish stop and tweak of wing to correct that.

Shame, as he looked awesome in Q2, as he does when he finally gets a set up that he's happy with.

Tough call for the race though, think it might be Vettel's as Hamilton and Webber chew rears too much.

nooo now think about it, his oversteery car will very quickly become a neutral, and then understeery car, with more time in between the understeey - undriveable than if he had started on an understeery setup from the start.

i think Jensen is trying to do one pit stop or at lest one less than everyone around him

The shot just after of the broken steering wheel in his hands is even more comic. Hope he wasn't injured!

And so much for DRS being safe.. how many failures this weekend? Mostly stuck closed, but Schumacher's stuck open in practise.

The soviets taking the opportunity to test a wingless aircraft this has taken Renault from being thought of as dark horses to being a better car than the prancing horse this season so far.

bloody shame for him that happened because i think the car itself looked fine after landing, it did remind me instantly of Senna though

Quick Nick is back ridiculous that he only got a drive through others misfortune.

Yep, quite impressed by some of Heidfelds racing, thought he would still be rusty (and I always thought he was a bit cautious in the past too).

The downward exhaust does make the above look like an hovercraft though.

Problem is.. Kubica would probably be winning in that car.

only whisper it, but Heidfeld is every bit the driver Kubika is. Little between them at BMW but Nick.. nicked it? I think Bobby has the skill to go further overall though - but then again who knows what powers Heidfelds Manbag contains?

im sure it used to be brown.. is this a new Manbag???
