Question Wake On Lan is not working

    Hello all,
I have the N5200 Router Pro.
    Wake on Lan is enabled.
WAN LAN is exchanged, so I connect everything to the 4 router ports.
After shutdown "Wake On Lan" will not work. I tried different tools and options. (They are working with one of my PC servers).

What I'm wondering is, that after shutdown no ligths are signalling that there is something awaiting the magic packet. It seems to be that the N5200 makes a completely power off.

How can I solve this problem? Can anybody give me some hints for analysing this?

Thanks a lot for all help!

    Dear Sir,

WOL support on the single WAN port only, thus please verify WOL function without WAN LAN exchanged.

    Hi Yvon,

thank you for your answer to my question.

I will try this next days, but if this is true the build in router is worthless for me!
Clients connected to the gigabit router should be able to wake up the N5200.

If this is not possible I have to buy an extra GB router for this purpose

You only need a GB switch not a router - much more cheaper than a router - and I would do that in any way and conect everything to the switch.

yes, you are right, it was stupid talking about a GB router.

But I found the solution of my problem "wake on lan not working"

    1. WOL will only work with the single port as WAN port!
    I disabled WAN LAN Exchange
plugged the network cable in the single WAN port and the front led and port led are ON
    after shutdown. Bingo!

    2. But the clients connected to the 4 LAN ports are not able to wake up the N5200 - ****!

3.The solution is to plug the WAN port and one LAN port to my internet router.
The other 3 GB lan ports are left for clients and they are now able to start the N5200 via WOL.

    Ups!

Question Re: Wake On Lan is not working

I'm having problems with WOL. It won't work on my N5200 Rouster. It is at firmware level V2.00.08.

It's connected to my network using the single WAN port and WAN/LAN exchange is disabled. I can't find a WOL option through the web admin screens - is there a way to check it and make sure it is enabled?

    Thanks
    Mike

Re: Wake On Lan is not working

To my knowledge only the Pro version supports WOL and there is no entry in the web admin interface - You see it if You shutdown the N5200 and the NIC LED is still on.

Thanks Peter. I will check the LED when I shut it down tonight.

Re: Wake On Lan is not working

I can confirm the LED's on the ethernet port do not stay on when the n5200 rouster is shutdown.

I wonder if there is a hardware change I could make to achieve this. Perhaps a WOL cable to the motherboard as in some older PC's?

Re: Wake On Lan is not working

    mtcsltd,

did you answered peterfu's question regarding your system?

Do you have N5200 Pro - WOL is possible if the WAN port is connected to your network and clients
and WOL is enabled in the menu

Do you have N5200 - WOL is not possible, don't know if there is a hardware hack to change this

Re: Wake On Lan is not working

As far as I know there is no hardware hack possible if You have the board without WOL
