    Re: Welcome to HEXUS!

Hi all, just got invited so I thought I'd better poke my head round the door and show my face. I'm not too sure if I can bring anything helpfull to this forum as I'm not what you would call an expert, but I have been into computers since the late 80's. I suppose it all started when I got my beloved Sinclair ZX Spectrum 16K. You know how it is, you take it appart to see how it works and then put it back together and, hay-ho, you're hooked. I think I was about 10 when I got the Specky so I started to program a little in basic and then moved on to machine language. Didn't get too far with that because soon after(Ican't remember when though), a very good friend of my mum and dad who was a top salesman for IBM, brought an IBM Vector when he visited us. Now, compared to the Specky, that thing was awsome so I knew what I was aiming for when I was older and had the dough. I slowly worked my way up the ranks with the 48k Specky, then the 128k+(at last, real inkey$), the 128k+2, the 128k+3, a Commodore +4, the commodore 64 and the Commodore Amiga A500+(my first experience with a windowed DOS OS). I've built a few PC systems for other people but most of my Pc's have been hand-me-downs so they havn't lasted very long(the P3 card bus types that over heated from dust attack). My current system is a P4 640HT Oc'd to 3.759Ghz on an RS400 A mobo, which is cooled by an AC Freezer 7 Pro modded so I can control the fan noise(if I decide to go back to stock speed). The GFX are handled very well by the MSI Geforce NX7600 GT Diamond Plus running my Sony 42" Bravia EX(Saved hard for that I can tell you). My sound quallity is stunning as it is pushed by a Creative Soundblaster FPS with X-RAM and the 5.25 drive bay O/I port hub, which in turn is going through my Phillips Dolby Pro 5.1 and Audiosource sub box. I've also added a Ralink Turbo wireless card and and four extra USB 2.0 ports All that lot is looked after by an Enermax Gallaxy 1000 DXX(which I got for only £120). I've had that PC for a few years so not-so-long-ago I decided that it was time to go extreme, you guessed it, water cooling. Well, after starting a worklog on PCAPEX and Custom PC(project Black Ice) I quit my job as a butcher and took a year out, not only because I've been working since I was 14 but also because my mum needed an operation on her foot and my father was no longer around to hinder looking after her.........sorry, did I say hinder, I mean help.......Really. I think I've come to a turning point in my life, and yeh, I know it's late in the day but butchery unfortunatly is a dying trade. I've decided to go for an IT coarse with @dvent Computer Training. Should be able to pass the first two ok, the CompTIA and MCCE but it isn't going to leave a lot of time for modding but you never know, I might even be able to help someone here one day eh? I do like giving back.

    Re: Welcome to HEXUS!

Hello everybody (man I sound just like Dr. Nick off the Simpson’s ),

well I finally decided to the plunge and join up to the Hexus experience. I have been a viewer for yonks but never joined. After recently doing lots of research into HTPCs + NMTs and finding lots of useful post on Hexus, I felt it was time to join in and offer my 2 pence wherever I had something useful to contribute.

Cheers to all, I will do my best to contribute as much as I can to the Hexus community
