Hi,
My name is stmok, and I'm a sex addict. I can't get enough of brunettes.
...Wait...Wrong place.
Let me start again.
Hi, my name is stmok...And I'm an Aussie Linux/BSD user. (Only use Windows when there's absolutely no choice).
I mainly build my own or modify stuff to meet my needs. (I don't buy things because its the "next big thing"). Hell, I don't own a P4-based system, because I know it was never an efficient design to begin with! (People thought I was crazy back then...Yeah! Who's the crazy one now!)
I build:
* my own, family's, friend's desktop PCs
(because of bad experience with pre-built one back in 1997)
* my own server
(scan/print/file sharing...Yes, it works with Windows and Linux networked PCs. I use HP gear because of their open-source drivers.)
* my own firewalls.
(buying embedded low power boards and installing some open-source firewall solution).
See VIA EPIA, Soekris, RouterBoard or WRAP in Google.com
I also like to play with network devices that are Linux based.
I got a pair of Linksys WRT54G routers and mod them with increase signal and into using WDS with WPA-PSK (AES).
I'm not all that fond of Microsoft (putting it VERY lightly), and having to be dependent on someone else.
I like to work through things myself. In all geek honesty, I like to learn.
(Compiling a kernel is not hard...So I don't know what people are afraid of!)
The pict here is Ubuntu Linux with Xgl/Compiz enabled on one of my PCs.
(Xgl & Compiz allows you to have that desktop "eyecandy" as found in OSX and the upcoming Vista...But on Linux!). Granted, its not as polished, but its free and available to any PC user.
On the left is Firefox browser, on the right is the open-source flight sim, called FlightGear. (uses OpenGL)
Do note: it takes a bit of fiddling...Well, it not all too hard. (just a few commands, and clicks of a mouse.) ...Just make sure you use Nvidia video cards. (ATI is a bit problematic in Linux for some folks, because of driver).
OK, I admit it...I prefer brunettes.
