    memory upgrade

i have a 1 gb ddr400 ram stick from kingston and i need to upgrade to game on vista. is it ok if i buy a 1gb ddr400 elixir or corsair stick from yoyo and install it in the non dual channel slot? As it is recommended that u have the same sticks for dual channel so if i dont put it in dual channel it should be ok rite?

the reason why i have ddr400 is because i have a amd s939 board and cpu.

Yes you can buy a 1gb ddr400 elixir or corsair stick and install it in the non dual channel slot, that way it would give you 2gb of system memory and there would not be any RAM compatibility issues because both the RAM sticks are running in two different channels. Ideally as you have also mentioned it is recommended to go with similar spec sticks from same company and that also preferably from same batch (if they are from same batch then they would have same RAM chips as well). So you should not mix'n'match different memory modules however you can try installing your new memory stick with the kingston in the same channel, the worst case scenario in this case would be that your system would not boot up or if it boots up it might not load windows or is unstable in which case you can run both the memory modules in seprate channels which is a absolutely okay and would be fully stable.
