Quiet CPU fan for a Silverstone Sugo chassis ?

Anyone got any recommendations for a quiet fan that is not the size of Jack's beanstalk ?

Plenty of reviews around for products like the 9500 etc, but in the smaller chassis, you have limited size available

CPU is an AM2 4200+ and the supplied fan is 'fun' in a chassis with so much open space!

Someone mentioned replacing the PSU fan and using an xp120 that should meet up with the underside of the PSU

Just did a quick check and that seems to run about 53db under most loads - whereas Intel stock coolers seem to run from 50db to 55db under load

Same research seems to show AMD boxed cooler around 53db as well

I guess what I am wishing for is an Asus X-Mars with 'a bit chopped off'

XP120 you provide your own fan - so you get to choose how loud you want

Interesting - but a little confusing

Are you saying that I can use the 120, and the fact that the PSU is so close, to 'convect' the heat straight through the PSU and out of the back ?

Is exactly what I'm saying (give that man a banana )

The thing is though you would have to replace the fan in the PSU (as they are all thermally throttled, and that won't be anygood for keeping your processor at decent temps). The idea is that the height of the XP120 is about the same as the distance between the chip and the bottom of the PSU (its quite a hefty cooler) and so the fan above is enough to pull air through the heatsink.

I guess the other issue here is the contact between the 120 and the CPU itself

I should really take the thing apart - clean it off with Naptha (or similar) - and see just how smooth both surfaces are

Not sure how to check clamping pressure (which I guess is a factor) - but I suppose you know you've gone to far when the edges of the mainboard curl up

    Interesting suggestion

The peak noise (under full power) is higher at 57db...

...but the average seems to be down around 41db

Do you know for sure if it will go in the Sugo chassis ?

BTW: I am thinking about an Antec 550HE Neo for this system

Donno for sure but looks pretty close according to the pic you have posted and according to the visuals of sugo in my mind.
Best thing would be that pay us a visit sometime and we can try the whole thing in a physical setup with the same components. That would be the best way i believe to make everything 100% sure.

I can highly recommend the Zalman. When i build systems for myself (and clients) i go for nothing else other then Zalman. Their products are high quality.

I have always opted for Zalman and theyre very reasonably priced at Yo Yo Tech. I bought the blue led Zalman today and it is virtually silent in low setting.

When building my current system i thought i'd try an Arctic Cooling fan but i can happily say never again. Cheap, noisy but i'll admit it was very effective.

Reasonable price, high quality, good support + manuals + accessories together with good performance and low noise what more could you want.

Hmmm... there is no congestion charging at the weekend - maybe I just put the small/neat Sugo box in me car and drive it down

At least, that way, I can be 100% certain !

(It is cool having a high-tech store close by )

    Not this time

It is too noisy in a retail environment to get an accurate handle on something like PSU decibels

I will get the NeoHE 430 installed - see the difference - then make a decision on cooler

Assuming you have what I need, then I will bring the box down then and use up one of your counters for 10 minutes

    Yo Bania!

Try the Silverstone NT03. The reviews on the Zalman 8000 have been unimpressive, but it doesn't look too bad.

If the XP-120 fits then they're damn nice (I've had a couple)

Fanwise, the Noctua NF-S12's are amazingly quiet as well the the NF-S80's (also in aforementioned link.

I've got a couple of these knocking around and they really are top-notch (although brown)
    Check my project <<| Black3D |>>

The NT03 is over priced and poor performance. Avoid at all costs
