The vid is them on Jonathon Woss, great live version.

    Genre: Weird.
Florence and the machine were the stand out performance at the Kent Hop Farm concert we went to in the summer, and Rabbit Heart is a very close 2nd for 2009. Overall my favourite track of 2009 is Ladyhawke - magic, the album came out end of 2008 but the single only recently Oct 2009 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xy3t6dDyXHg )

    Yep, you it know it.

I will show you something that not safe for work.

Baby Baby Baby - Make the Girl Dance

Probably my 3rd favourite song of the year.

Re: Favourite song of the year 2009

OK I had a look at what songs I had been listening to lately and I guess I could be excused putting up a couple more

First up, La Roux - I'm Not Your Toy:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y7IGE58IPgo&feature=fvst

Wow I didn't realise this is gonna be a single. Anyway, this was definitely one of the songs that stood out from her album and I love it for it's rhythm, it's beat, it's quirky synths they're just all great and fit together so well. It has a great beat and a fantastic chorus. It's a very playful tune that just melts in your ears and it's just really, really listenable. La Roux is also another artist that I didn't think I'd get into but her album is consistently good and I respect her a lot for that.

    Frankmusik - Vacant Heart:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CEq7pz6-9Vw

This song is a pop-centric power ballad/emotional epic of sorts. It has a great opening that just draws you in and the rest of the song just flows like silk from thereon. Not a masterpiece but definitely a great song nonetheless.

    Medina - You and I
    Genre - Progressive house

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zzXFppZCDSg

This is a beautiful prog house tune I have to say, as some may know I am a bit of a bedroom DJ so I do tend to get some stuff quite early on. I first heard this tune in Dutch (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SHuWj6ycquQ) which I do not understand at all! I loved the sound of it tho so I started playing it around the time I split up with my ex back in April. Gets to summer and the tune has been so massive over there they decided to release it over here in english. To say the lyrics are apt to my situation back then is probably an understatement. There's a few remixes about of this one, the original is the best one I think but the spencer hill one and the dash berlin ones are pretty good.

Seriously, I am not into rap, hands up from the start but seriously to me there is nothing worse than when you get some rapper who essentially rips off some old dance/pop tune or whatever and then just talks bollocks over the top of it. It didn't work for William Shatner and I don't think Jay Z is pulling it off either. Been some shocking examples of this recently, with that horrendous version of Olive you're not alone and whatshis name doing a number on Daft Punk's masterpiece harder , faster, stronger.

In this case even the orginal forever young wasn't very good, neither were the hardcore remixes either, but il admit I do have fond memorys of em.

I really didn't think I'd get into Jay-Z but it all started 3 years ago when I downloaded most of Kanye West's Graduation album.

At first I hated as I had expected but fast forward a few months and I found myself really liking the rhythm in most of his songs. Fast forward a few more months and I found that his lyrics are actually really good. At this point I went out to buy his album to give it a proper listen in good quality and to check out the songs that I didn't have and I was hooked. I have to say no other artist comes close to writing lyrics as good as his (I used to think Keane's lyrics were good but honestly they are nothing after you've heard Jimmy Eat World and now Kanye West).

So it was also at this time that fellow forum member Unreal decided to give us his Hovito's Way album for free. That opened my eyes (or ears rather) to Jay-Z and I loved that album. In terms of lyrics, rhythm, word-play Jay-Z had just topped the spot for me and now when he released his newest album I had to give it a listen.

I can understand why so many people don't like rap, especially the successful artists that seem to pervade the airwaves because I used to hate them too. But remember most things are popular for a good reason and honestly if you sit down and give Jay-Z and Kanye West a good listen I think you'll find that they're very intelligent guys who can put some amazing music together. As for the song itself, Young Forever, I chose it over Empire State of Mind because it's not being playing on the radio for the last month or so and I felt the lyrics and the melody were simply bliss and worth a good listen and ponder (preferably on a sunny afternoon)

As with every genre of music there are a lot of crap but there are gems to be found too and I personally think Jay-Z and Kanye West are the gems of the rap scene and are worth a listen.
