    New car

I got my new car last week. A Vectra 1.8 SRi It replaced my knackered Fiat Bravo 1.2.

Bizarrely, the insurance cost is the same as it was on the Bravo last year. I'm 19 with Pass Plus, 0NCB and a years named driver experience.

Heres a pic of it parked outside my house at uni:

It's a bit of a change from my Bravo. Loads better on the motorways when I go home at weekends though

    Looks good, mileage?

And the insurance on the 200 is the same as the Mondeo for me! (19, 1 yr NCB)

mileage is 111k. Its got a full service history though and is in mint condition. You can tell its been looked after. I'm impressed with it so far A world apart from my old car. It's got a stainless catback and k&n on it which gives a nice noise too

    Re: New car

Insurance costs the same - you must have a good company.

Vectra is at least an insurance group 10 with about 115bhp vs the Bravo's group 5? and 80bhp

EDIT: Ah, sorry, just spotted the Vectra is modified, maybe that brought it down. I know when I modded my car and switched to a specialist insurance company the price came down.

    Re: New car

But its not a small car..

Its not all based on groupings. The vectra is less likely to be crashed, because its normally older people that drive them.. therfor less likeley to crash them ect.

Nice car, cant be bad for 19

Sure its a world of difference over that bravo you had b4..Bravos are awful btw.

Insurance isnt based on groupings? so when I went from my 2001 1.2 fiat brava sx on IG 6 (IIRC) to my Golf Gt Tdi 115 on IG 12, my insurance should actually have gone down because the Golf's less likely to get hit?

hmmm... funny that, my insurance actually jumped £400....

what I am amazed with is that the Insurance hasn't taken him dry for the mods on it, assuming they're declared of course

The insurance is very much based on the type of car ect.. you are talking about a performance desiel (saying that makes me sick).

For instance you will find a 1.8 focus and a 1.6 saxo vtr both pretty much the same group have huge differences in insurance costs. For obvious reasons.

In many cases it is based upon the group.. but not all when talking about young drivers insurance.

Who cares if they are declared cars worth bugger all. So you wouldnt bother and just wack it on tpft.

ah... so the Sri isn't a performance model then? my bad, sorry.

in regards to the mods, that's a rather flimsy excuse for not declaring them what if, on the (very slim, admittedly) off chance, these mods add to the cars performance, he has a bump and the insurance is declared void once cars have been inspected? where does the 3rd party stand then?

    Re: New car

True, but I am sure it wouldnt come to that.

And yes the SRI is a performance model in the eyes of vauxhall. But I think this time it just comes down to what I said.. young driver on bigger less crashed by youths car proves to be a good comprimise on the eys of the insurer.

I went from a fietsa back in the day 1.1 then to a 1.9 tdi and it was not much more at all. Then I jumped into a gti and got spanked as you would expect.

    Re: New car

SRI isn't really a sport model, neither is a GT TDI, it's just a trim level really. It probably puts up the insurance over a 1.8 Club though or something

I think you will find the GT TDI is a pretty nippy number and far more a performance model than this is.

Gt's benefit from a lot of sport features the lower spec Se doesnt

    Are the mods declared?
my main concern also, I despise people who think they're above the law and warrant it unnecessary to declare them.

    Re: New car

The mods I am sure add nothng more than 5bhp> I agree that they should be declared in hinesight..

But I am pretty sure it wouldnt pose to much of a problem.. I have had freinds that have not decalred smal things like this and been fine in accidents.

Although if its obvious like lowering, alloys, supercharger, rollcage ect then it is a MUST
