Budget Build Thread (Pics)

Firstly, thanks to a few forum members for helping me finalise the spec, got bored so snapped as it went on, not bad for a cheap pc.

Spec.

AM3 240
Coolermaster 344 ATX case
120mm Coolermaster blue LED fan
400w Corsair PSU
2GB Corsair 1333
MSI 770-C45 Mobo (Advertised as RED PCB, one i recieved was black and looks miles better)
500GB WD blue HDD
Samsung Optical
Gainward 9800GT " Green "

Total cost was £345.09 inc VAT

Runs quiet enough and cool enough.















As you can see, pretty unexciting, but i was bored.

Maybe it will help somebody in the near future ?

Note the difference in the motherboard model number, although I think you ment 770-C35 as there is not 770-C34






Actually that black one is the DDR3 version the red one is the ddr2 version, which version did you get?

And as you got 1333mhz memory I'm guessing that's ddr3 and you got the ddr3 version motherboard, which is why it's black and not red

Ha didnt even notice there was too versions, but yes ddr3 version

Its gone now , i was happy leaving it at stock speeds for her, was running at like 23degrees idle !

OS is Windows 7 Ultimate (32bit) OEM

And as for noise, not at all, even with the standard rear case fan/cpu fan it was barely audible in idle, the noisiest thing in the system was the 9800GT, i say noisiest but this in itself was very quiet. If it was on the floor next to you in a room you would barely hear it.

I was impressed with the noise levels (although wasnt expecting it to be this quiet), but most of all the temps of everything !.

CPU idle was 23degrees ish, even @ 100% load in prime for a few hours the temp never exceeded 41 degrees.

GPU was 30idle and ventured up to around 45 degrees after an hour of DIRT 2 @ 1440x900 with everything as high as it would go (very playable).

For the price I was very impressed, the MSI mobo is cracking for its cost, have to set the cpu fan in bios though, say target temp 45 degrees then it monitors temps via the 4pin PWM cpu fan, but it ran so cool.

All in all impressed, she didnt set the budget very high and i managed (with the help of you cat) to make it happen.

Granted..if i had gone to Aria the build could of cost about £10 less as we could of used the OCZ over the Corsair, but i ventured to scan and didnt come out stinking (Yes Aria smells like a farm, unless its the dude behind the counter? smelly turd).

For 1400x900 or 1280x1024 that's pretty much the perfect setup.
Heck you could of dropped to win7 home, but that wasn't in the budget I see

Dual core + 9800gt + 2gb memory = all that's needed for that res.

I didnt supply the OS, i was given it and told to install lol.

And yep it runs stuff nicely.

Might have another thread soon...gonna sell my TJ09 and buy a TJ07 or the 800D

The 9800GT is still a good card IMHO. I know someone who has the Zotac 9800GT Green Edition and it still runs many games at 1280X1024 and 1440X900 very well. It just shows you how good the G92 architecture is despite it being over two years since they were released. The 8800GT and 9800GT are basically the same cards in terms of the GPU.

there are 3 g92 chips, the original g92 as used in the 8800gt, 8800gts 512mb and 9800gtx
the g92a which has lower power demand at idle, used in the 9800gtx+ and original 9800gt
and the g92b which was a die shrunk g92a, used in the gts250 and 9800gt bus powered cards, also in the gts240 (OEM only)

note: some of the eairly 9800gt used the g92 or original 8800gt pcb's so didn't have the idle powersaving.
simular goes for the gts250, som of the eairly ones where g92a so required 2 pic-e 6pin power leads.
