HTC Magic (Google Phone 2) Android - Unboxing

    Hey all,
Got my G2 today, took some pics of the unboxing:

Any one tempted by this phone and have any questions - feel free to shoot away, I have a rooted g1 running Android 1.5 and now a brand new g2 in hand as we speak.

How do the headphones connect (usb?) and can you use 3rd party ones? Also is the wi-fi still killing the gsm signal which it did on pre-production models.

Headphones are still USB - I presume you can use 3rd party ones, but have none to hand.
Wi-fi does not kill GSM signal.

I need the exchange support or I'd consider Android.

I want the phone based hypervisors to come out , then I can use both !

The one I use is called exchangeIT, only got 2 stars but aslong as your exchange server supports webdav and owa connections you just need the address for your exchange mailbox and away you go

Just to add there also seem to be a number of exchange apps showing up now and the best one is something like $25 but I haven't stumped up the cash for it in case it doesn't work. Just waiting on a few reviews for it. Will find the name of that app to when I hear anything about it.

Re: HTC Magic (Google Phone 2) Android - Unboxing

I made the switch at Christmas after a near enough life time of WinMo, I couldn't be happier - a few things take time to get used to, but on the whole it's worth it.

Infact it's worth it just to be able to dial a number on a touch screen without a massive delay/missed numbers.

Nope. still rocking away with my Kaiser, though the contract is up round about now. Just waiting for t-mobile to introduce the Compact V aka the Diamond 2. I think they might wait until WinMob 6.5 is out, due to be released next week I believe. HTC have said their new handsets will be upgradable.

Oh and the new touchflow is fantastic. I have it the custom ROM i'm using at the moment, fantastic. Now I've ditched PocketCM my device is so much more stable and, though not a pretty, messaging is fast and reliable.

That does make Android more appealing. This would be essential for me now.

Yet you can't dial a number without lag! Priorities eh?

My wife's on the diamond 1 at the moment - the pre installed Rom was ridiculously poor, the full touch flow (not manilla 2d version) was so lagged, I couldn't believe it - I've got a custom rom now, but it's still a joke.

I really, really hope windows mobile 6.5 is good, as you know I've used WinMo for years and years, but it's just not cutting it for me anymore - my rooted g1 is superb, and although has some deficiencies in comparison to WinMo, is absolutely and rapidly getting there.....
