I suffer input lag on both typing a phone number and writing text messages. Its really getting on my nerves tbh, I'll be seriously considering Android next time round. Seems HTC are getting it right on the looks front this time round. Looking forward to future posts about it, are you planning to talk a little about what it is like to use and the app store?

    For you blondie anything....

I'm seriously glad you agreed with me, I was starting to think I had invented the slow, lagginess of WinMo, maybe some of the other posters have Ostrich Syndrome - or are very lucky indeed!

I can do a post on Android, for a start I don't recommended jumping ship from WinMo to Android - yet - unless you don't use your phone for business. It's not a business ready device - it can be with some tweaking, but it's not quite there. I can still ftp into my webserver, download then edit some html files, then reupload them, no problem, but exchange and office support aren't amazing.

(For those reading I'm using Documents to go for office support [although google docs works (not well)] and haven't got into exchange yet).

If (like me) your attached to google via email, and don't want an office type of phone - this is probably what you want - all the google products are superb, the market is good - it needs improving, but it's decent atm, the flexibility of the phone is great and as it was the US's 5th best selling smartphone, expect a lot more apps to come soon.

I don't know why someone would go to the trouble of faking a free open source OS, but you never know with chinese knock offs.

    £120 isn't too bad. I personally wouldn't bother though

I got mine for free, on a 35 quid a month, 12 month contract - which, given the market (18 months plus) is a hell of a deal!

I kinda guessed that it would be along the same lines as the fake iphones but thought you guys could verify it.

Apparently the Samsung i7500 is coming to O2 which I cannot wait for, just hope its out in September when I am due an upgrade... I really don't wanna have to change to T-Mobile or Voda, their customer service and signal is just not as good.

Of course, that'll come with 6.1 and that's a step backwards (shame) and there isn't a 6.5 ROM for it (yet) afaik.

6.5 with spb mobile shell 3 is a very nice combination though and there's not a lot that i'm lacking in terms of functionality (winmob's strength is it's configurability) but yeah, MS are definitely lagging in the touch department (fortunately third parties really are taking up the slack rather well).

Wouldn't mind trying android on the diamond 2 - and that's probably only a matter of time.

Is the GPS free on the Magic or do you have to pay?

Just using the GPS won't incur any costs, and you'll be able to use it with Google maps without a problem.

A turn by turn SatNav app (like TomTom or something similar) will probably cost you to buy the maps or perhaps the app as well.

Nice one cheer for the info Funkstar. I've got a road GPS and was wanting this just to find my way around at street level on foot so that will do me nicely. My HTC Magic is being delivered tomorrow. I managed to get it direct from Vodafone for £30 on an 18 month contract as I wanted to port my number so they matched the Phone4U offer

Re: HTC Magic (Google Phone 2) Android - Unboxing

Nav4All app on Magic works fine for turn by turn, free map too no problems.

I've had my Magic since launch, £24/month contract over 18months. I simply renewed my old contract and got a nice deal on the magic (£50 one off charge instead of £100 and £4 extra monthly for internet instead of £8 extra so £24 a month all in).

I have an invisible skin shield coming in the next few days as the rubber sleeves are too bulky and hard to put in and take out of your pocket.

    Pics:

(I had the Nokia 5800 Xpress and bought a spare stand which I use with the Magic now)

Android really is the best phone OS. It's free, the market has great apps, the phone itself is very user friendly and snappy, the camera, even without flash, is good quality too.

Any questions I'll be happy to answer
